Actinic Lite - newbie information required.

    Hi all,

I'm new to Actinic, and eCommerce and am currently evaluating the software with a view to buy. I'm also a website developer, and have a good level of knowledge re design, Macromedia Flash, a little HTML etc.. I've developed and maintain many websites as well.

On a recent marketing exercise, I was asked to develop an eCommerce site that a potential client was interested in, so my questions are as follows.

eCommerce will be a new addition to my current services, so do I go for Actinic Developer Lite and add Actinic Catalogue?

If I did, can I "re-use" the software to develop further sites?

Does the software enable the client to add / remove / amend products? I do not want to support this side of things.

It’s a big investment for me, and I want to make sure that I get it right, so your guys help would be much appreciated!

Thanks all, and I'm sure you'll see me many times on the forums..

    Thanks
    Simon

Developer Lite is for developer/designers to create a site (multiple times).

You then use Lite to create a snapshot to send tothe clieint (with or withoit products)

Your client them buys client catalog or client business, and fully manages the shop himself - he will be able to maintain products, download orders, configure shipping, tax etc etc.

In summary he can do everything except the design element, you can do everything except download orders.

You can use Lite to develop as many sites as you like, each clent has to buy their own copy of the software to process on their PC..

But hang on for a few days to buy V8

Thanks for that Jo, you advise has helped a lot.

      A couple more questions(!)

So, I can use Lite to develop as many sites as I need to, but all the ordering etc, is "de-activated". When the customer is happy with the developed site, they then purchase Catalogue and I install this on their PC - this will then activate the ordering process etc. Is that right?

Can I use Actinic Lite with Dreamweaver / FrontPage?

      When is V8 out?

      Are upgrades free?

      Thanks again ...

The product will slightly changewith V8, when (v7) order manager will bereplaced with client catalog an client business. It is probably better for you to clarify the finer detail with Actinic sales. But essentially your understanding is correct

There is an Actinic extension for DW. Using FP is not advisable

        When is V8 out?
Very soon! maybe this week , maybe next week

        Are upgrades free?
Not normally, again phone actinic sales for clarification
