    Displaying Component Prices

I'm new to Actninc Catalog and am doing my first e-commerce site, so bear with me. Here's the problem:

I have products which are available with a number of accessories. So, I set up a product then create the accessories as components associating them with hidden products and assigning them the asscoaited product prices. Is there anyway I can get the component to automatically display the associated product price? At the moment, I am displaying the price of the component by including it in the component name.

I'm concerned about that old probelm of storing duplicated information and would rather have one place only for storing a whether it is used for calculations or display purposes.

I've had a look through then forums and the knowledge base, but can not find the solution.

    Hopefully sosmeone can help.

I have given an answer to this here. It probably is not the answer you want though.

Norman Rouxel (ID: NormanRouxel) has written a patch to do this as an add-on. I would recommend contacing him for more details.

I have spoken to Norman re an addon to solve the problem of storing data in more than one place. The only one he knows of is produced by www.mole-end.biz .

Unfortunately it is for Actinic Business and I am an Actinic Catalog user and it retails for £100.00.

Hopefully this can be remedied for the future as it is a fairly basic prinicpal of storing data.

      Regards

Maybe the whole issue of components could be looked at in greater detail.....

        my wish list

1 weights to be applied to each component, and additional shipping costs

2 display of pricing of components (as requested by asprott above)

3 stock control of components (please don't say I can do this with hidden products - take the example of a clothes store 1 tshirt, 4 sizes, 10 colours = 40 hidden products, multiply that by 100 tshirts - 4000 additional products to add to the store)

Actually this product does not do what you want to do - this one lets you have one product in lots of sections.

I can recall a few threads about this lately and Norman did post a solution in the thread below

            Regards,
Quite right the addon would be a fudged solution, but it would at least allow one stop pricing for a given product.

I may have interpreted this wrongly, but Norman's solution was for hard coding of component prices (in brackets) that would then allow dynamic display of totals.

What I want is for a component to diplsy its price, by taking it from the Associated Product, ensuring that for any given product
(no matter how it is displayed on your site) you only enter the price once.

            Cheers

Why don't you write a program (actually even a bit of SQL would do the trick) that adds the price in brackets to the end of the component line automatically, then you will only have to enter the price once and just run your program when you change prices - if you want the displayed price to include VAT you might get rounding errors though.

Just to point out for other readers that my add-on is not a fudged solution, it solves the problem that it was designed to solve extremely well.

A worthy suggestion. Time permitting (getting the excuses in early) I shall try and have a look at this, but it is while since I have dabbled in such matters.

I would also like to point out to other readers, that I was not suggesting Jan's add-on was a fudged solution for the purpose it was designed for. I appreciate your input Jan.

                Thanks

i agree... but i have had to create those extra hidden products as unfortunately i dont have programming knowledge which is why i bought actinic BUSINESS as 'an off the shelve' solution....

i think this package needs more work as a 'business' ecommerce package.
