Problems installing Actinic Catalogue v7 on a network

    Hi,

I have a network with a shared directory. I would like to install Actinic Catalogue v7 on two PCs on the network and have the database in the shared directory.

I have installed Actinic on one PC with the databse on the shared drive but cannot install it on the second PC. Obviously we're not trying to 'cheat' Actinic by having more than one shop - it would jusy make it easier if we could edit the system from two places.

Also, the Help pages aren't showing up. Could this be something to do with installing it on the shared drive?

    Thanks, Adam

I'm not 100% sure but I think I read somewhere that you can only install Actinic on one computer for admin/order processing and another one for order processing only

Jan posts on here regularly and I think there may be an add on available via www.mole-end.biz

        Only two versions?

        Thanks for the reply LL.

Does this mean that Catalogue can only be installed on two PCs and Actinic knows that it's already installed twice and therefore won't allow it to be installed a third time?

The original developer still has a copy installed on their machine, so if this is correct all they need to do is uninstall Actinic and then I can install it on the second PC on my network.

Can anyone confirm (or scotch) this theory? Thanks.

There is a networked version of actinic availble called Multi user, I suggest you call sales to outline your scenario

            Multi-user licence required

I checked with Actinic Sales and they confirmed that I really need the Business Multi-User licence.

In my view it's an expensive option to upgrade from one user (£379+Vat) to two-user (£1549 + Vat). Doesn't make much sense to me. It's still one shop and, in my configuration, just one copy of the database - and I don't want to use it one both machines concurrently.

Apparently, even using snap-shots and working on more than one PC is infringing the copyright.

            So now we know!

As I understand it with MultiUser you can only upload design/product changes from the one (admin) machine. The other machines are for order management etc. The reason being that you're sharing the access database not the templates.

Why not use remote desktop, RealVNC, PCAnywhere or something similar across your network. That would give you the convenience of being able to work on the 'main' pc's desktop from anywhere.

another way to do it would be to just install actinic as normal, dont try and network any of it,
then install it on the 2nd pc, again dont try and network any of it,
then set up a shared folder somewhere on the network (make sure you select "Allow network uses to change my files")
that way once you have finished editing the site on one pc, you can just export a snapshot from actinic INTO that shared folder, and load it on the other PC.
