Tips and tricks for Google Adwords?

Well number one is reasearch your keyphrases and keep an eye on your budget.

One thing is for certain, if you use generic phrases (not exact []) your budget will flow out of your bank like the rivers into the sea.

If at all possible, use [my widget for sale] as this will ensure you are found by relevant searchers (or at least greatly increase the likelyhood) and hence the prospect will be a little warmer.

Loads to learn, not a scheme for the faint hearted, best follow the above advice and learn from google or similar, loads of good courses out there (just avoid them using adwords to get your attention )

            Regards

If your impressions are low and yet you are ranking high then these terms are not what people are searching for. Use the adwords keyword tools to find more specfic keywords that relate to your products.

For eg I don't think I would ever type horticultural or envirolite into Google when looking for lighting.

                tips

i've been running adwords campaigns for a while now and here are few tricks i've learned...

Stick to one or two keywords per ad group

Make sure the keyword is in the copy of the ad

Create an ad for each keyword

Google some of your keywords and look for results which do not relate to your products and add these keywords as negitive ones in each ad group

If you are finding that you are ranking very low then up your ad spend/bid but tie this in with the time periods (Ad Scheduling) when you receive the most amount of hits. This will generate a big impression during the peroids when most people are searching your keywords. And shouldn't cost you much more.

Play beat the control: Always run two ads for the same keyword against each other and every couple of day change the worst performing one. The idea is to try and beat your best performing ad by tweaking the copy.

Checkout the competition, by seeing what keywords they use and how they word their ads, and copy those keywords into your own better ads.

Remember google always rewards you for relevance so get into the mind of your potential customers and give them what they want in an ad.

                  Try this article:
                  http://www.selfpromotion.com/overtur...rds-bid-tips.t

Create an ad for each keyword
Also: make sure that the advert lands on the approriate page for the product - that's gotten me more sales than anything.

The four biggies I remember are:
                    1. Choose your keywords well as mentioned already
                    2. Include the keyword or part of it in the title of the ad
                    3. Include the keyword again in the body of the ad (These words will be in bold text)
                    4. And very importantly, your landing page should also prominently show the searched keywords as well as give an immediate opportunity to buy the product.

Does anyone know what the difference between the 'sponsered links' at the side and the highlighted ones at the top of the search results are.

I've started appearing in the top highlighted one for some searches and I don't know why - is it going to cost me more?

Does anyone have any opinions as to which is more effective, side or top?

I believe this happens when you get no. 1 ranking, and it will cost more to get a higher ranking. There are many who believe it is better to set your preferred rank to lower than one as many shoppers ignore the first few PPC adverts because they are usually e-bay and other 'blanket' advertisements. If you set your preference to (say) 4+, you can still get a higher ranking if no-one else is bidding at the same rate as you.

I always set the preference to 4-10 (and so do several other forum members)

                          Does this make sense?

Have to agree with Duncan #7

The keyword is the problems in that it is not anything people would key in, you could have a keyword say "colchester organic sea salt" and be rated number 1 quite easily but who would look for it, they would be typing in "sea salt" or "Organic Salt"

Therefore if the product is lights then you would be looking at maybe
                            Farm Lights
                            Outdoor Lighting
                            Barn Lighting
                            Greenhouse lights
                            Yard lights
                            Weatherproof lights

Use the google keyword finder which should also give you a good guide to how many people use the keyword

Ranking is only good if it's a keyword people use

                            hope this helps

Thanks Alan - that would explain it. I'm clearly the only person in the world who wants 'felting tool' for their google adwords , because I'm certainly not bidding more than 0.05 for my space.
