    MAJOR Postage Problem

    Hi All,

    I'm well and truly stumped.

I have received an order from a customer wanting to send 3 jars of honey to Germany. She did not want to pay online - instead she has faxed me a "screen shot" of the cart contents and the address detail (stage 2 of checkout).

On this fax Postage and Handling clearly states $40. However it should be $50. I have not been able to replicate the $40 charge. How has this happened?

My postage charges are based on weight and for Germany the postage jumps from $25 in the first weight bracket to $50. There is no $40 increment at all.

I can't send this order out until this is resolved so looking forward to some urgent responses.

[EDITTED TO ADD] My parcel increment for Europe (economy air) is set up as 0.5kg $15; 1kg $25; 2kg $50; each additional 0.5kg $7.

I do have a $40 postage fee for economy air for 2kg parcels going to the Asia Pacific region.

I've managed to replicate what the customer has done.

She has selected "Hong Kong" in the drop down menu when selecting country in stage one and checked the "send invoice to other address" check box.

This then brings up the $40 postage and handling fee, but leaves the country field in the "invoice address" editable.

Obviously realising she made a mistake she has changed the "Hong Kong" field to "Germany". However this does not change the postage and handling fee (This field should really be locked).

Another way to obtain this result is that she initially inputs Germany in the Shipping Destination field in the first check out stage. Goes on to the second stage. Then using her back button on the browser goes back to the first stage and accidentally changes the country to "Hong Kong" instead of Germany and checks the "send invoice to other address" check box. At the second stage of the check out process the postage and handling fee comes up as $40 (the amount for Hong Kong) but the Country field has "Germany" in it (is this because of a cookie issue due to her previous visit to this page?). Again the country field is editable. In my view this should be changed to a field that is not directly editable.

[MESSAGE TO ACTINIC] When a customer selects the "If you want to ship the purchase to an address other than the invoice address, check this box:" check box the "Country" field in the second stage of the check out process is directly editable. Can this be changed so that this is not directly editable (ie. so it operates in the same way as when the checbox on stage one is not checked)?[/MESSAGE TO ACTINIC

Has the response you got on the support query you raised, sorted this issue for you?

        Kind regards,

I've unfortunately deleted the response I got from support. If I remember correctly it suggested to select the "Tax by Invoice" address option in Business Settings. Problem is that is in the advanced tax options and I am using Simple.

As I'm currently very busy I don't have the time to sit down and get my head around this tax issue to see how it will impact my site before I make a change. So it is something I've had to add to my "to do" list - which seems to be growing at an ever increasing rate.

I still think though that even under the simple tax system I'm using that the Country field should not be directly editable under any circumstances as it directly determines the postage costs.
