    Site update problems

When I try to update my site, actinic gets as far as "Sending catalog files" then I get this error message:

Actinic is unable to upload to the site using the FTP protocol. Select Continue to upload the site using HTTP or Cancel to stop the upload.

Could anyone tell me what is going on? Please....

    Hi,

Our combination of being too far away from the exchange and having a dodgy connection means that Actinic has a nasty habit of timing out randomly any time we want to do an upload.

What we've found however, is that Actinic will eventually give you the option of using HTTP for the upload rather than FTP. HTTP tends to be a lot more reliable than FTP uploads from within Actinic.

So if it's timing out and then giving you the option, it's worth going for.

However, if this is the first thing you're seeing, double check that your FTP details are all correctly set up within Actinic, and that your server has the proper permissions set. Making sure that you're using a passive FTP transfer also tends to speed things up.

      Thanks Rob.

The error message I got was offered the first time I did it so I'm guessing then its a problem with my FTP settings. Could this have anything to do with the problem I am having whenever I click an add to cart button on my store? (see thread from earlier this morning).

        Rob,

Selecting passive FTP seems to have enabled it to work. The problem with the "add to cart" button I refered to in my reply became a permissions problem once I'd managed to update the store. My webhosts sorted that out.

        Many thanks.

Great to hear that you got it working. To be honest, I had no idea what was causing the problem, but I'd learned from experience that enabling passive FTP transfers tends to help things along
