Sudden errors no changes? Need guidance V7

Problem #1:
A General Script Error Occurred
Error: Error opening ./acatalog/64Z129Z116Z36A1158333140B3404.session (Permission denied)
Press the Browser back button and try again or contact the site owner

Developed to problem #2 when refreshing site:
An error occurred while merging files on the remote site. The website
index has been corrupted. Catalog is unable to update the index.
Copy ./acatalog/fulltext.fil to ./acatalog/oldtext.fil failed. Permission
denied. Please refresh the site.

I have:
Checked directory and file permissions
Checked directory and file locations
Tried refreshing with alternate script names (2)
Manually deleted and replaced said files
Manually deleted entire site (including cgi scripts) and refreshed
Same error occurs...
Catalog appears to refresh as normal until the end and gives me the same error no matter what I try...

Any ideas?

if you haven't changed anything I suspect that your host may have....

have you contacted them?

OK...what questions should I be asking?

Host changes such as? A generic question to my hosting company will provide a meaningless response...what should I be asking them about?

(Permission denied) would seem to indicate the host may have made some global changes to server/site/folder permissions.

The generic question would be - what recent changes have been logged on my server - and should receive a specific answer (If the answer is we don't keep a log of the changes we make, then that will tell you a lot about the quality of service to expect in future).
