Testing new site when old site is still live

    Hi there

We currently have a fully operational website but are re-jigging it using Actinic.

How do I test the new site without over-riding the current website. There are various new things we've introduced like ssl which I want to make sure works when we switch !

We do have another domain use we could test it on but that one is on a different host to our current site and I don't think I'll be able to test ssl as that's on the host that our current live website is on. (Does that make sense ?)

    Thanks

    Hayley

You can upload the test files to a different part of the webserver ... eg test/acatalog rather than acatalog .... ensure you use a different script id in the network settings and untick the "use as homepage" against the home icon at the top of the content tree.

I prefer to use a subdomain so instead of www.site.com use test.site.com

why not simply use the TEST mode within actinc, this copies everything to a subfolder within the acatalog folder. amd prefixes cgi scripts with 9

You can test ssl within a sub folder but not a sub domain

an ssl cert issied to www.domain.co.uk is not valid at www.test.domain.co.uk but is valid at www.domain.co.uk/acatalog/test/catalog
