Creating listing page - please help!

    Hi,

I'm new to web design and Actinic and have been working through various threads, other sites etc to get our site up together.

I have set up 4 example products all in a section called "Full range of digital cameras" and each under their own sub section. I have then copied as duplicates into "Full range of digital products" and used a more compact product template. The final step (7) of the advanced guide (p24) says I should select none for list placement under location and arrangement of section list.

I have done this and expected no subsections to show under the "Full range of digital product" in the left hand sections box. But all 4 subsections are showing... have I missunderstood what point 7 is supposed to do? or am I being stupid (or both! ) - Can anyone help please?

Here is a link to the site:

    Cheers

    Myles,

You have misunderstood what it is supposed to do. You do not see the list of sub sections on the siplay along with the compact layout duplicates, else they would have been there.

The Left hand Navigation can be changed using the AUG, to only display top level sections, if that is what you want.

    Kind regards,

      Hi Bruce,

      Sorry what is the AUG?

What I am hoping to acheive is on the left hand nav:

      http://www.kmscameras.co.uk/

to have all of the subsections showing except under full range of digital cameras as I will be inputting all of my products under here. Is it possible to limit just this one to show just the title?

      Cheers,

      Myles

          Hi Jont,

Thanks - is there anything in the AUG that will allow me to do what I want? I've got it in front of me - the closest I can see is p 39 for creating a list of hyperlinks with sections and sub sections but I don't think this will let me choose where I show the sub sections and where I don't...

Myles - the navigation at the left will automally display any sections and sub-sections that you create in your store. The instructions in the advanced users guide (that you have been following) tell you how to remove the sub-section lists from the main bulk area of your store, but not from the sidebar.

Because the list in the sidebar is automatically generated based on the contents of your content tree, it isn't possible to manually select which sections are shown/hidden there (fyi, it is possible in v8).

I'm afraid the only thing I can suggest is manually creating the HTML for your sidebar navigation, rather than relying on the automatically-created one in Actinic.

Thanks I'll give that a go.
