slow homepage

hi

can anyone tell us how to make the homepage load faster,
once the homepage has loaded the rest of the site is fine

we have been stuggling with this for months now any help with this problem would be most welcome

It is not desperate by any stretch and it quite small in size at just over 21kb .... ticking the compact the cgi-bin/html option under Design | Option | Misc will delete the additional Actinic comments and reduce the bloat and loading times

It did load a little slow for me - who is it hosted with? check that there are no problems with the host.

Looking at it a little more it may be the act_section_tree.js that is causing the problem. This subject has been discussed in depth before so a search will provide some ideas for fixing the problem.

You must have solved it, the page loaded in approx. 3/4 seconds, (broadband, Sunday 10:30am UK)

You have a huge number of pages on your site and the file Act_section_tree.js that generates the left hand menus is a whopping 946Kb! This will definitely slow down page load times for first time customers - it may be in the browser cache for subsequent page views so has less of an impact for existing users.

If you don't change your section structure often, you might want to replace the YahooSections code with hard coded links and thus do away with Act_section_tree.js completely.

Alternatively, I have an add-on (FilePruner) that uses PHP on your server to strip this file down to about 1/20th to 1/50th of it's size (by restricting it to only 2 levels and removing/compacting redundant code). Email me if interested.
