Dangers of copying templates from old sites?

I have revamped a website and have gutted the content tree and then basically restructured it entirely to go with the new design. The problem I have, is that the new design has over 2000 images!

To avoid spending countless hours adding all the images, my idea is to revert back to the old snapshop with the images associated with them. Then import my new CSV file with the new structure - with the objective of updating products that match with their associated images saving hours of creating a CSV file with image associations etc...

Then because the old snapshot will of overwritten my new design/theme, I intended to drop all the templates from my new design into the site 1 folder.

My question is, am I at risk of corrupting my site by doing this? and is there anything I need to set or be aware of before proceeding with this?

There are 2 ways to go at this - a hierachal import of the products into your new templates or copying the new templates into the site1 folder.

Imports always seem fraught with complexity and niggles. When I work on clients sites I often simply send over the Act_Templates that have changed and they simply copy into the site1 folder to replace the old (after taking a copy of the existing to be safe). I use relative paths and nothing that is absolute or site specific and have never had any issues
