    Google, link:www."yoursite".co.uk ...

    Hi,

My mate runs www.3g.co.uk, been going for 6/7 years and one of the things he always told me about ranking was "links to" the home page are, among many attributes, big plus's

If you type link:www.3g.co.uk in google it returns approx 2400 links, most of which are his own pages, but nevertheless, counted by google.

If you do link:www.esafetysigns.co.uk i get no matches found.

Now i might be premature, just off the blocks as it were, but I would expect google to return all of my pages that have a link to the Home page, i.e. all of them within /acatalog/?

Have a go with your own site .... http://www.google.co.uk/

    Any ideas, Simon.

Google only shows links that it considers significant, not all of them. Quite what google considers significant is a big unkown. It used to be based on Pagerank but now other factors are considered as well.

Other search engines tend to include most links in their link: results and can be used for a better indication of what linsk exist. Of course to do well in Google you should be trying to get as many 'significant' links as you can.
