Zone Alarm & True Vector Troubles?

    Hi
I posted a problem yesterday with no answers, I think this has something to do with Zone Alarm and True Vectors now ? does this sound right... I do hope someone can help.

We can't upload the site to our server it freezes on sending base files, I have imported the site to V7 which we run another site on and we seem to have the same problem with our Specialstages site

Thanks any feed back would be appreciated, Crayons and white paper help as I'm jack of all master of none business.

    Cheers Bruce

okay I've read more on this now

Hi I see the zone alarm issue is bigger than I thought, it seems to be the latest update, can anyone help with uninstalling it as it will not let us do this, also will it fix the upload troubles we are having it only seems to bother v6 and not v7 ?
ps I'm sure they do this just before busy Christmas period to extract monies from us...

I have Zonealarm and V6 but no problem so I'm not sure it is zonealarm. What exactly is your problem? (it would have been best to stick to a single thread as now we don't know what you said in the other thread and there could be other replies there as well).

      Mike

Edit: PS. Is the problem only with V6 or also with V7? Only I think you're saying that when you import the site into V7 then it also breaks?

        zone alarm

Sorry about this double thread, i have now read on a zonealarm forum that this is causing issues withn actinic, it seems a very big problem from what I have read and I have been running zone alarm for over 5 years now with no problems but this latest version has made a right mess. Has anyone had the same trouble ? it's more to do with the true vector issue I think, as we can't unistall zone alarm now or upgrade, or even open the version we are running which is the 65_737_000en from July/sept not the smaller version from feb06

        thx any input greatfully received

I'm also running 6.5.737.000 without any problems (but only doing an occasional update rather than a full refresh). I'm sure many others are too so if it was a widespread problem but I'd expect there to be more complaints here on this forum.

That's not to say there isn't a problem though. Can you point us to the thread on the other forum where this issue is being discussed?

it seems there are two issues here, 1 Actinic problem and 2 the true vector lock out which does not allow us to unistall or overwrite with an older version of Zone alarm, I am getting anoyed now as Zonelabs do not have a definative solution to this that I can find, I will call no doubt at great expense when they wake up on the East Coast USA.

              Hi there

Like Mike, I am also running this version without any issue to any version of Actinic. I have been uploading to a test server with v6, v7 and v8 and have not experienced any problems.

              Kind Regards

I wonder if it's something else causing the problem.

Does it only happen with V6? Can you try enabling passive FTP (or disabling it if already enabled).

I have just tried to remove zone alarm in safe mode and thats a complete failure as it's running in the background somewhere not allowing access to certain files.

We have now tried to down load from the site with v6 and that is okay although no orders as people can't place any.

We have no tryed again to refresh and also upload site from v6 and it is waiting with hour glass symbol at "sending bb000001.cgi" and thats it the whole program is unresposive. ???

Sorry but I can't help you with Zonealarm. If you'd like to investigate other areas then I'm more than happy to try and help you.

                        Hi Mike

have just tried your advice and all seems to be working okay again, my next question is why ? few just received some orders. Many thanks again I will look into the zone alarm trouble but deep down I think there is a link...

or is this my server messing with things ?

Just in case you have several things happening here at once, it may be worth changing the script number and trying the upload again. I know that solves several "upload" problems in v7 that defy explanation.

ZoneAlarm 6.5.737.000 is certainly causing problems for other programs.

On my main PC it stopped Windows Live Messenger from logging in - constant "81000306 errors". The bug in this case is in the IM Security option. However disabling that option had no effect. It took a horrendous amount of Safe Mode tweaking to completely remove it and get Messenger working again.

Active ftp sometimes has problems with routers and firewalls as it required a connection to be opened up from the server to the ftp client. For many V6 customer this became a major issue as broadband dsl connections rapidly became more common. There was a time when every Actinic connection problem was answered by 'enable passive ftp'.

Recently, there has been a shift away from allowing passive ftp at the server side due a possible security issue and firewalls have become better at enabling active ftp to work. I wouldn't be surprised if something was changed at the server.

Bottom line: When actinic can confirm that the network setup is correct but there's a problem transferring files then the first thing to try is changing the ftp settings.
