    Extra Pages on Navigation Bar

    Hello,

I am hoping someone can help. When I first got my site from the designers they told me that if I wanted to add a new page that would not appear on the navigation bar on the left (pink box), then I just had to put the widerspacer.gif in instead of a button gif. That has worked well for over a year, however, I now have many additional pages which are not visible on the navigation bar and want to add some new visible ones. When I do that the pink box is getting messed up, and I presume it is all the invisible pages pushing the box down. Does anyone know how I can add pages without having them hidden on the navigation bar, as I would really like the bar to only be big enough for the visible pages?

I hope that made some sense! The site is www.bitsnstuff.co.uk if anyone is able to help me I would be very grateful.

You can do several things - dependant on how your site is laid out and the effect you need.

Move the sections you want to show above the hidden sections.

Lump all the hidden sections as sub-section to remove them from the parent listing

Hand design the left hand pink box navigation - this adds more creativity (and better SEO functionality) but can remove some of the flexability of Actinic maintaining the navigation for you

.. and another option having just seen how the invisible gif if working in the box .... you could try adding a class to the image and set the actinic.css to display:none to remove them from the design ... this could be done by using Javasrcipt to test which image is in place and setting the class accordingly

Thinking on the fly with this option so may not be viable after actually thinking about it properly

        Hi,

Thank you for your response. The second option is way beyond me and got me confused as well!!

I was trying to work on the first option by putting all the extra pages in to a subsection. I made a page invisible on the navigation bar using widespace.gif called Additional Pages and was trying to put all the extra pages under it as subsections by copy and pasting, but they won't go in there - am I doing something stupid!?

You can just drag and drop the sections into the new section

It looks like it has gone in and then the page suddenly appears back where it started?!

This must be something very simple, which I am messing up!

I have made a new brochure page and am trying to drag and drop the spare (hidden) brochure pages in to it - it that what you meant? So that on the new brochure page will be listed on the navigation (but invisible, with the widespacer.gif).

Having looked at about 10 of the brochure pages these are simple pages with text and a couple of images .... another option (that will work this time!!!) is to use normal product pages and use a fragment to display the information - that will keep them out of the left hand box and you can move them around with impunity

Oh! So is it not possible then to make one brochure page called Additional or something and dump all the extras that I don't want in the navigation box in it?

What is the normal way of doing this? Or does everyone have all these hidden pages?

Won't they appear in my shop somewhere then or do I have to mark them as hidden?

Another way would be to hardcode the links in the navigation using an html editor. That way you would not have any invisible navigation images and could add/remove pages at will.

Note that the invisible nav images are clickable.

That sounds way beyond me as I do not know html. Is there a dummies version?

Ideally I would like to be able to add as many pages to my site as I like and then link them in wherever I want without them appearing on the main navigation. e.g. articles listed/linked on the articles page, homepage list, maybe in the relevant product section, etc. but not on the navigation bar.

You can again use the invisible gif as the section image to the same effect you have been using in the main box .. as this only appears at the top of the shop the chances of finding it are going to be minimal.... if you placed them at hte bottom of the content tree they would only appear as an invisible link on http://www.bitsnstuff.co.uk/acatalog/index.html

This is not possible without modifying the standard Actinic navigation as it will always add a brouchre page to the nav bar.

This is a bit of a pain that I was hoping would be sorted in V8 but it is not.
