hiding category in section layout

hello

I have defined a list of main categories arranged in a 2 columns per row layout. I intend to hide one of the category but is visible in the left navigation frame. I have tried using javascript in Act_SectionLinesBoxes to control the display.
However, because of the 2 columns layout, i'm left with one blank column in between. Is there other way of achieving this? perhaps using <actinic:block ....... statement? thanks

Actinic block if statements are a new addition in v8 - unless you have posted in the wrong part of the forum, they will not work for you.

If you move the "hidden" section to the end of the list the blank will not be obvious.
