Modify Message WhenOrdering More Then Max Quantity Available

When a customer tries to order more than the max quantity available the catalogue page refreshes and they get the message:

'The following product(s) can not be added to the cart.
You can find the error description(s) by following the link(s).'

I would like to make this message more meaningful for the 'less bright' amongst my customers! Where is it generated and can it be modified?

Also the 'link' mentioned takes them back to the individual product which has another warning message in red:

'Quantity: The quantity must be a whole number between 1 and X.'

I would like to modify this wording as well.

    Any ideas. Many thanks.

Hi Tom - the texts you need are in Design | Text - at the bottom left hand side is a "Go To" button - click on this and enter:

Phase = -1, ID = 2181 for the first message

Phase = -1, ID = 60 for the second message

When you've entered one of these you will go to the text which will be highlighted - move the cursor over it, right click and select "Zoom" to edit.

    Chris

PS bear in mind that the first message might cover more than this one particular error, so you might want to make it pretty general!

        Hi there,

I was just wondering if the first message is changed will this change any other error message for a different message,

Lets say if i change it from
'The following product(s) can not be added to the cart.
You can find the error description(s) by following the link(s).'

and change it to something like
'The following product(s) can not be added to the cart as you have exceeded the maximum stock level. Please contat our sales office to place your order... bla bla bla'

will this be ok, basically does any other action use this error message other than qty?

also is there a way to display the current/ available stock level within this error message?

Ok i hve just read the thread again and have noticed tat this message may be used for more than one thing,

Does anybody know what other things might use this message.

Also i have just made alterations to the text and when i try to place an order over the qty it no longer presents the message. I cant see how changing the text would affect this. i have deleted the link that was displayed.???

Ok i have just managed to work out why its no longer working, I have changed the maximum qty to the linked products(which are hidden) rather than the one showing with components and choices, so that... if i was selling t-shirts and i had one with choice selection of red, blue and green , i put a maximum order of 10 of each colour. but my customer wants to purchace 10 blue and 10 red...

The only way i can get the maximum qty's to work is to put it one the showing product and not the choices,

i'm starting to confuse myself now you you guys must be already, does anybody understand what i'm trying to say and if so how can it be resolved.

              Hi,

There is a known bug whereby the max quantity set on an associated product does not affect the sale when the choice is selected - so in effect someone could order over the max quantity for the choice. This is being addressed in the next patch release of v7 (don't have a release date yet but I can assure you that it is coming soon).

Keep an eye on http://www.actinic.co.uk/support/downloads.htm for 7.0.7. This will be free for anyone already using v7.
