    Site Map

    Hi all,
I am having trouble with my site map.
For some reason the details in mine are far from the true content of my site.
I have had to resort to manually inputting info on a page I have created.
Is there a way of having atinic do this for me as my rankings seem to be suffering due to this.
    Please help.
    Thanks.
    Mark

You seem to have two sitemaps. The one linked to from the catalog pages (http://www.kessockmodels.com/acatalog/sitemap.html) seems to perhaps be correct (at least for the catalog pages) but the other linked to from your homepage (http://www.kessockmodels.com/acatalog/Site_map.html) does not.

I would reccomend searching on the forum about how to create and submit a Google sitemap.

      link

      Hi,
thanks for that, can you tell me how I get the sitemap link on my site to do as it should rather than the page I have created.
I have just deleted the site_map part I created, have gone to design/options/sections and have selected include sitemap but it is not appearing on my site.
      any ideas?
      thanks.

              Link

              Thanks for the reply.
Any idea how I manage to get the site map link onto my front page to enable spiders to get into it a bit easier (think this is what I need to do).
Also if you can help with the above it would be great.
              Thanks.

                This may help.

                Hi,

This is the way I do it (could be wrong, could be right, but Google does recognise the updates).

                I use this program

                http://gsitecrawler.com/

                to generate the sitemap.

It will automatically ftp the new sitemap to your website. You just need to fill in you ftp username, password etc. The root directory seems to work fine. This is the same folder as your index.html page.

To speed things up with Google you can let them know that a new sitemap has been added/updated by logging into your Google Accont and selecting Webmaster Tools and submitting your sitemap.

It will even tell you if there are any problems.

As for products, as long as these are listed within the sections then Google will find them ok.

                Hope this helps.

                Cheers

                Nick

Actually Nick, you can also set GSiteCrawler to do the Google notification for you when it completes the FTP upload. No need to separately log in to Google and faff around there.

                    ftp

                    hi,
                    thanks for the input guys.
I need to know if I can use frontpage to do the ftp bit, if so is it simply a case of importing my site adding the sitemap bit and uploading to my site?
                    If not HELP!
                    Many thanks.

It is not a good idea to use front page as an FTP program

Find yourself a freeware or opensource FTP program as recommended above

                          Bill,

                          Ref. Google getting pinged.

Whenever I check the Google Webmaster Tools sitemap section after uploading the GSite Sitemap it never seems to acknowledge the GSite "ping" so I just do it manually to make sure.

                          Thanks

Mark - you can use Frontpage but with trepidation - can't recall from memory as not used for a couple of years but there are 2 methods of connecting via FP - 1 is fine the other is a pig (obne requires the FP extensions to be installed which are not entirely compatible with Actinic)

You can also use Internet Explorer - simply use ftp://www.site.com in the address bar to connect - if you have Windows Explorer open at the same time you can simply drag and drop the file from the hard drive to the server
