Design requires changing

Hi!!
Im new to Actinic, but i have purchased v.5 a while ago as i decided to update my website to incorporate checkout and cart features.
So far i can see that i have invested my money wisely

But what i want to know, is that apart from having the "standard" templates, how can i change them and add different layouts to the catalogue and sections and products areas. I have managed to change small bits, like titles and footers, which was straight forward, but i would like some content on the right of the sections and products pages to display special offers, links, and other relevant information.
