    A General Script Error Occurred

    Hi

My client, using Catalog, has experienced the following error, getting a number of complaints from users trying to order products and their shopping basket saying it has expired. The first time (approx 10 days ago) it happened I suggested a purge and refresh, which appeared to resolve it, but he says it seems to have come back again:

    A General Script Error Occurred

Error: Error opening ../acatalog/portZ254ZpoolearenaZadslZnewnetZcoZukA1151668545B34886.session (Interrupted system call)
Press the Browser back button and try again or contact the site owner

Anybody had similar problems or any ideas that I could suggest to resolve this?

    Many thanks

This is much more likely to be a server issue than an Actinic one. E.g. an overloaded server that's timing out when running the big Perl scripts that Actinic uses.

Talk to the server support people and see if they are having problems.

Update. If you look at http://www.underground-england.co.uk/acatalog/error.err you'll see that the problems started on the 6th November. Check if you or the hosts changed anything then.

      First such error:
      Program = ORDERSCR, Program version = 490 , HTTP Server = Apache/1.3.33 (Unix) PHP/4.4.0, Return code = 999 , Date and Time = 2006/11/06 13:08, Internal Errors = Error opening ../acatalog/static036ZmelZoffZconnectZcomZauA1162305555B38175.session (Interrupted system call)

        Many thanks, Norman

I will get my client to speak to his hosting company and post the result once he gets back to me.

        Thanks again

          general script error

Same problem here just appeared after Claranet have done some platform upgrades. Their support is rubbish so doubt we will get an answer to the issue.
          Our error is :-
Error: Error opening ../acatalog/dslZspZ81Z140Z4Z9ZinZaddrZbroadbandscopeZcomA1163530377B86945.session (Interrupted system call)

Several customers compained, I have done test orders and it is hit and miss.

              Yes Jo,

I got my client to refresh, then do a complete purge and refresh - same problem.

My client is also using Claranet, so it seems likely that may be the same issue as Caroline is having.

I have asked him to try and get in touch with them, but he also says their support leaves a lot to be desired!

I'll post an update asap my client gets back to me.

                general script errors

                Hi,

yes refreshed the site 4 times tonight.
It seems ok most of the time if you buy a single item but multiple items always get the error.
The shopping cart empties when you carry on after the error.

                  general script errors

                  Hi,

                  problem solved.

A 1 hour call to claranet business support, fobbed off and passed from pillar to post but a very stern approach and a demand to speak to a manager finally paid off.
Caranet have not even bothered giving a response to the support ticket we raised, they just said we will look into it and we got a call back to say the problem was fixed.
I know this does not neccessarily help the technically minded understand what the issue was BUT I would advise anyone having similar problems and hosting with Claranet to follow my example and give them plenty of grief until they sort you out.
Compensation for lost orders and the 6 hours downtime on 5th November - DREAM ON they are not interested.
We will be looking for a new host after Christmas.

in all honesty you will not find any host who can offer this type of compensation.

the insurance/indemnity would be prohibitive, thus hosting cost would be high.

My client finally received a reply from Claranet!

It was incomprehensible (in poor English), looked like it had come from an offshore help desk and certainly not much help. They say they do not provide any support for third party software, etc., although their website still has a page dedicated to their being an Actinic supplier and hosting provider A host to be avoided I think...

The problem does seem to have gone away at the moment - coincidence I wonder? I shall be watching the Actnic err file closely...

                        Interrupted system call

I've had the same problem recently ever since claranet forgot to renew the ssl cert again! (only happened every year for the last three years) with the site down for two days each time they try to fix it.....This is despite a phone call the day before to ascertain if they have done their job - Idiots!

Spoke to them twice of the last two days, waste of time. No reply...

I will be changing hosting to 4sure who have been brilliant

Have been with clara since 1998 but just can't stand the crap service anymore so I guess that it's a couple of days of script changes etc.

So advice is AVOID clara like the plague.

                          Problem back again

Anyone else having issues with claranet again?

                          Same problem as before.

                          (Interrupted system call)

Error log file contains 27 entries for today alone.

Guess it really time to move hosts
