    Double up orders

    Hello all,

I sometimes receive 2 orders that are the same, except have different Actinic order numbers. I have done a bit of testing and found that sometimes when the customer clicks on next to confirm the order the screen "freezes up" and the customer presses next again and then the order confirmation screen is displayed, and by the customer pressing next twice this has sent 2 orders through hence the double up orders.

I think this is probably a server problem not an Actinic one but I would be keen to know if anyone else has had the same problem, and how one may get around it.

My site is running on a windows server 2003 platform.

    Cheers
    Steve

One simple low-tech answer that we use is simply to add text along the lines of "please click only once - it might take a few moments to confirm your order"

Being on a Windows server won't help, if you are having anoy other issues, i would suggest moving off Windows.

As you say the customer is hitting the send button twice and doubling the orders. To really prevent this you need to be hosting on a very fast server (on a fast network) and ensure all your customer are on the fastest possible connection - which is not possible.

This phenomenon occurs more this time of year when the internet is very busy and everything slows down that little bit (I have received 2 today).

At this time of year I also add in a "click once whilst we process your order" to help stop trigger happy shoppers

hosting on windows is not a problem if the host knows how to set it up properly for actinic.

I would run some tests in the checkout yourself to monitor the speed of the checkout. You could be loosing orders if it is slow.

If its slow then move to a better host unix or windows.

Thanks Jo, I will run some tests from home.

As you say Actinic on windows is not a problem, I have never had any major troubles with it, as long as IUSR_MACHINENAME has the correct permissions to the files and folders it needs.

Marvellous how the simple approach often works. I take it you did not get another rash of doubled orders over the Christmas period?
