The primary templates are not uploaded to your server, they are just used as building blocks to generate the pages on your site. Your network settings are probably fine, I would go for a full refresh and I hopefully that will sort it for you.

it seems to be working ok now.
i checked the network settings and i had SSL set to passive ftp which it wasn't for the other site, it took a long time do do a site upload so it must have added a fair bit.
Seems to be working ok now just got to sort out the evil layouts for the checkout pages.

Working on the checkout pages for our v8 site at the moment too, all I can say is good luck!! They are a nightmare!

Do the images have to be stored on the SSL part to be used in the checkout?

As far as I'm concerned the answer is no, Actinic just references them from https instead of http. It may depend on how SSL is setup on your server though.
