Links to my site are not showing up in link:

If anyone can throw any light on what i am doing wrong that would be great.

When i do a link:www.myweb.co.uk etc on google it only comes up with 1 link from DMOZ when i know from looking by hand that websites do have links to my website, i can think of two quality links from manufacturers that i would like google to see so my PR goes up a bit as its only at 1 atm.

Out of interest do i need to link to these sites so google can find them (like google doesnt know them already) or find them faster, also atm we dont have a links page but are looking at having a Suppliers/Partners page where i link to their websites more to show customers that we are selling quality products etc.

Any help on this would be great, i did do a search for this and if ive missed a simple answer sorry in advance.

    Hi Terry

Yes it may be those referring pages are not indexed by google, so if you was to place a link to the pages, then google will spider the links, and perhaps index thoses pages. There has been discussion in the past regarding links and google, like the following: http://community.actinic.com/showpos...44&postcount=8

Have a read of the above

For some time now Google only shows a selection of links that it believes to be significant. How and why Google chooses which links to show is a big unknown.

Whether you link back to a website will not make any difference to whether the link is shown by Google, but may reduce the importance of their link to you in Google's eyes.

The reasoning behind this is quite simple really. Google views links to a website as a 'vote' in the quality of the website. The more votes you get the better your website should do in the search results. If these votes are gained on the basis of 'you vote for me and I'll vote for you' (i.e. reciprocal links) then they're not real votes and Google views them as being less important than non-reciprocal links. The same goes for bought links and links from link networks.
