DD directory not purged on refresh

we recently added some new products to a catalog that has both 'hard' and digital download capability. the refresh worked fine except for one thing - the older version of the digital content was not purged, so we now have 2 copies of the digital content on the server.

can i just delete the older copies?

i would assume that the links now point to the new copies, but we all know what assume does

I'd manually go in and delte the unwanted files
