Transferring Actinic to a new PC

    Hi hope someone can help

I want to transfer all my actinic software and files over to a new laptop as this current pc is on it's last legs

anything I need to be wary of messing up or does anyone have a good way of doing it easily?

I was going to install the software on the new laptop and then copy the folders and files over

    Is this the right way?

thanks in advance for any help or advice anyone can give

    Thanks

THIS IS THE WAY I WOULD DO IT

install actinic on the new pc making sure that you are installing the same version that is on your pc now

do a snapshot on your old pc, this will save all orders, settings, images etc from your actinic store

restore the snapshop on your new pc

hey presto actinic is now fully installed on the new pc

    things to be aware of
    • the snapshot feature only backs up things in the site 1 folder
    • any images not in site1 folder will not be imported into new store
    • you will need to refresh your website when you are happy with the restore on the new pc

      Be Aware Though

Also be prepared for a longer next upload / refresh.

Do that in a quiet off-peak period, be prepared for disruption, and have patience.

I don't know why, but this process can cause script errors & downtime - perhaps because of differing IP addresses or something? I have tried this a few times & it always causes me a problem for half a day, only a complete refresh fixes the errors.

I forgot the bit about the full site refresh

You must do a complete refresh or when you try to upload you will get checksum errors

As said you should be the site refresh in a quite time as shoppers on the site may notice script errors whilst you are refreshing the site

it takes me about 2 hours to do a full refresh

          Fao Dave!

Interesting - you're online now - looked at your site & wanted 'mints' - can't see section for them, alone? Found them under 'boiled' but this would not be my obvious search criteria.

Also, bug on your right hand side image size, on Home Page (OK in the store) !!!

When ever you move actinic from one Pc to another the next upload will be a refresh rather than an update. This is because the date stamp on the new PC will be different to the old Pc, thus the refresh.

It is always advisable after a server move or a PC move to do a refresh to resync everything

which site as the image bug on the right hand side ?

When you have a range of over 1000 lines you sometimes have to be a little literal with the sections some products are placed under

mose mints are actually boiled sweets hence they are in the right section, there are some ones which are not boiled ie chewy mints

I opened today in Firefox & it seems to be OK, but there was definitely a bug there before, so I tried again in IE6. Will test in IE7 when I get home!

On sweets2yourdoor Home Page, the globe in the right hand panel sticks out to the right - I think the problem is not the globe itself, but the line 'UK Delivery from £1.99' so I copied the code:

In index.html (BrochurePrimary) you have a <br> missing:

                <div align="center"><p><br><span class="style47">UK Delivery from &pound;1.99</span><a href="http://www.sweets2yourdoor.co.uk/acatalog/WORLDWIDE_DELIVERY.html" target="_self"><img src="http://www.sweets2yourdoor.co.uk/images/world-globe.gif" width="140" height="151" border="0"></a><br><span class="style47">Worldwide delivery Available</span> </p></div>

In your store (Act_Primary) which works you have the <br>:

                <div align="center"><p><br><span class="style47">UK Delivery from &pound;1.99 </span> *** <br> ***<a href="http://www.sweets2yourdoor.co.uk/acatalog/WORLDWIDE_DELIVERY.html" target="_self"><img src="http://www.sweets2yourdoor.co.uk/images/world-globe.gif" width="140" height="151" border="0"></a><br><span class="style47">Worldwide delivery Available</span> </p></div>

Take your point on the other matter, but I was looking for 'mints', I didn't care whether they were extra-strong, imperials or glaciers, sugary, hard or chewy, I was just looking for mints...... and trying to think like a customer would!!
