    Problems sending mail! V7

    Hi,
I wonder if anybody could help.
We have suddenly started to receive the following error when sending mail to customers via order processing in V7

Failed to communicate with the SMTP server.

    Possible Cause:
    1. Network transmission problems.
    2. Could have Changed the SMTP Server settings, but not Uploaded after that.

    Recommendation:
    1. Retry
    2. Upload the Site First, if you have changed the SMTP Server Settings.

    Resolution:
If retry fails, check your SMTP settings
    or contact your ISP.

    The error was:
58322johnwarren22@gmail.comUnable to connect to the mail socket (Connection refused

    Command: send Filename:

The crazy thing is that all our other e-mails are working perfectly.
We run two computers net worked together through a router.

The other computer runs Actinic V8 through the same connection. We are both on Tiscali for our connection, everything else is running perfectly. My V7 site is hosted by IOMART, they had mail problems over Christmas so I assumed it was that but they tell me its now fixed and not their problem but a local problem, firewall or something, but its ran perfectly up until about a week ago.

The crazy thing is that if I keep pushing 'Retry' it eventually goes through. Could be after the 1st attempt or the 100th! Its more annoying than anything!

I have run a test in the Advanced Network setup and get the following:

The computer you specified as your mail server is not a valid mail (SMTP) server. Check the computer name or address and try again. If it fails again, then it is possible, you were locked out by a firewall program, or you don't have network connection to this server.

    Actinic Mail Test completed successfully
    server: passed
    connection: failed
    sockets: passed
    communications: failed
    authorisation: failed
    message: Connection refused

NOTHING IN THIS SECTION HAS BEEN ALTERED OR CHANGED. Its the same as it ever was! The fact that some messages go through tell me that my settings must be OK, right?

Any ideas guys? Any help much appreciated.

    Thanks and Happy New Year

I presume you can send emails from that computer using your email client program in which case this still sounds like a host problem - especially as you say it eventually goes after retrying.

Have you tried using localhost as the SMTP server? Norman over at www.drillpine.biz also has a send mail patch that resolves a lot of other issues and may be worth checking out.

then it would be an idea to contact your host to see if they have made any changes. Thist type of error is normally due to hosting configuration.

May be worth editing out the email address in the OP if a real address - even though there is an error in the line some clever spam bots may be able to harvest, decipher and send exciting offers for replica swiss watches

            E mail problems

I had exactly the same issue recently, my host had made some changes without notifying there customers.

Anyhow they gave me an ip number to replace "localhost" in SMTP settings and all works fine now.
            Regards
