Special Offers - best way to display

We want to put some special offers on our site - not on all products - just a selection.

Previously what I have done is put in the product description "Special Offer - Was £x.xx Now £x.xx", and changed the price in the price field. However this can be very long winded - working out what the inc vat price is, then what the Special Offer Price is, then working out the Special Offer Ex Vat Price is and entering that in the prices tab, then repeating where a product is in more than one section.

Then of course when the offer is finished doing the reverse.

Does anyone know of a better way of doing this?

    Hi Kathy

    Happy New Year to you.

We did this a while ago in V7 using customvars. Will dig out the method for exact replication.

We created a 'price' & discount with a different display font (strikethrough) and then applied it to whichever item was reduced.

Sorry for the vagueness but it was sometime ago, will search it out and post back soon.

Create a new section called special offers and copy+paste in copies of the products on offer. change the prices etc and delete when offer finishes.

Thanks Mal but that wouldn't work very well - would want the products in their main sections as well - not just in the special offers one - plus would have to change the product code which would mess things up when they are transferred into Sage via Actinic Link!

Just a thought - but as you have link working it would not work.

Just wondered if you'd managed to remember how to do this?

            Thanks

I figured out an easier way the other day, but would still like to hear the customvars one....

Basically I copied the product that was on special offer...
              Then hid the original copy
Edited the copy of the product

Then when i was finished, deleted the copied product and unhid the original.

Still quite a lengthy process but a little bit quicker when reverting back to full prices....
