Hi we are using actinic v6 and when our customers place an order we have to manually send them conformation Emails. Is there a reason why the software won't send out an Email automatically as it takes up a lot of our time sending these Emails manually.

Have you ticked the box in Business Settings > Ordering > 'Send Receipt email to customer' ?

This is strange. It appears:
1. That actinic doesn't send out the order confirmation email automatically, even when set up to do so.
2. That actinic does send out the emails when you do them manually.
The problem is that 2. confirms that the email settings are correct and working and therefor 1. should work when selected.
All I can suggest is doing a website update to make sure the server has the latest settings and if that doesn't work to contact actinic support using the email form on the actinic website.
