    Server change problem

    Hi all

Just thought I'd post this little poser just in case anyone can help.

My shop's been recently moved to a different server by my hosting company so, a different IP number but my user name and password stay the same. All my folder structure also stays the same so it's the same path to the cgi-bin and acatalog folder etc.

I thought it would be just a simple change of the IP for the server host in the FTP details but Actinic doesn't want to upload the site, giving me a 'The "acatalog" directory exists but is locked due to the directory's permissions. Actinic can not work with these settings.' error when I test the network settings.

I can still, seemingly, download orders and can browse to and up/download to the acatalog folder using an FTP program such as SmartFTP with no problem. As far as I can see the permissions for the folder seem fine.

Have I missed some other setting I need to update?

Any pointers would be gratefully received.

IF it's a Linux/Unix server - use your FTP programme to check the permissions on the acatalog and cgi-bin folders - acatalog should be set at 777 and cgi-bin should be set at 755.

Depending how 'recent' recent is, there could be a cached copy of your old site details interfering. Clear all cookies and temporary internet files related to your site.

From a Command Prompt try a ping command

    >ping www.yourdomainname.co.uk

to see if the IP number that come back in the response is the same as the new IP number. If it's not your new address is still being propagated across the DNS system.

If it's a windows server - you will need to ask the host to check the windows installation guidance from thAUG.

Thanks very much for all of that. I think the problem was a couple of things in the end. Wrong permissions and also the DNS hadn't been redirected to the new IP.

All seems to be OK now.

      Thanks again
