Help! Retrieve data from removed harddisk

Hello, my pc broke down after a powercut and i took out the harddrive b4 it went off to the insurance company. A friend of mine will install the harddrive on her pc for the time being to see what data we can retrieve, if the harddrive is still intact what do we need to do to get actinic back on and running ? do I need to install actinic software on her pc or do I just copy the site 1 folder? I did do regular backups on my old pc (but never a site snapshot?). We are not very technical so would you be able to guide us through step by step?
I will also need help to reinstall the software and putting the retrieved data back together to recreate my site, on my new pc, but I don't want to install the old harddrive on there as it is unreliable.
Please give me step by step help if you can, as everyone on here seems to be an IT wizzard!
Thanks a ton for any help you can give!

Not sure of an exact set of instructions, but if you can not run the application on the machine which you can attach the hard drive onto, which is the most likely situation as it will not have any of the registry connections, then I would.

        1. Install the exact same version of Actinic onto your new machine (down to the 7.x.x bits)

        2. Copy from the old machine the entire Site1 folder onto CD to move the files and sub-folders..

        3. If you kept images and that in folders other than the site1, then copy those onto the CD.

        4. Go to the newly installed Actinic, with it not running.

        5. Replace the default site1 with your site1 (right click on the properties of site1 and go through assigning its files and sub-foldered files to NOT be read-only - sometimes a quirk of copying from a CD).

        6. If you had files external to the site1, then copy these back to the exact same location as originally.

Start Actinic and keep your fingers crossed.

Other options if you have local backups on the original machine, might be to find and copy those across, and ignore stages 5 onwards, start Actinic and do a restore from one of them, and see where that puts you.

Install the same version of Actinic as you were using onto the new PC. Then copy the entire Site1 folders contents from your old drive into the new Site1, overwriting everything that's there. Start Actinic and you should be looking at your old site.

Because you never took a Snapshot you won't be able to recover the old username / password (it's not in the Site folder) so any pending orders on your site will be hard to recover.

If you're not sure what version of Actinic you were using then post your live site's URL and we can peek in there to see what it is. If the site is www.she-rocks.co.uk, then you were using 7.0.5.
