    cannot connect to server?

Hi all, still problems with my uploading, i have moved hosting companies and am happy, but when i go in to web/configure website details. then this comes up

"The wizard needs FTP account information for your SSL server to upload the CGI scripts that will be executed under SSL. If the FTP account information is identical to that of the FTP server used to upload the web site then you only need to tick the box. If you do not have an FTP account with your ISP, cancel this wizard and check the help for information on manually uploading your Catalog."

i have tried the tick option "use the non secure Server settings" as i am unsure of what to put in the boxes below?

then i click next and the wizard comes up saying "error while triying to verify web server. error sending request" ?

i am totally lost, the advanced/the network settings bit is all correct as i have verifyed them with the person who helped me move hosting?

i though at first it could be the dns tags taking there time but this has been about 5 days!!!

    any ideas in desperate need!!

    BR

    Have you checked the DNS?

Go to www.dnsstuff.com and do a WHOIS

you can then see if your domain is pointing to the correct nameservers.

Also check on your PC that you are also pointing to the correct webspace, find out what the IP is for your domain and ping it.

ie fromStart, Run type in ping your domain

check it returns the correct IP.

If all these tests pass, run and network test, try this withou SSL enabled to start with. If it passes turn on SSL and try again

      "request timed out"

"[Caching always on for search engines and InfoPath]
Found WHOIS server for .uk: whois.nic.uk. Looking up.

[NOTE: If the WHOIS output says that you are blocked, it is *us* that is being blocked.]"

        Hi Alexander,

Given your problem I would first of all turn off everything to do with SSL and try to get the website working first. Once that's working then we can turn the SSL stuff on.

Assuming this is the shhh- website, then it looks as if your dns is OK but the website is presenting a 403 forbidden message. This could just be because the server is setup to present this when there's no real content to serve.

So I would turn off the SSL stuff, enter the ftp username and password that you have from your host and then try running the network wizard.

If you run into problems then make a note and post the network settings and result here (remembering to overwrite the ftp username and password).

It sounds like your host prevents access to empty directories as a security measure and Actinic is trying to check your url but getting nowhere because of this.

I would create a simple html page, "hello world" is fine, call it index.html and ftp it up to your server. This way your host should display something when actinic checks the url and everything should run smoothly.

(this would also check that your host isn't doing anything silly as the simple page should display when you check your url).

I can't see anything on your site from here.

Are you able to ftp into your site and see if the content is there? If it is, then your host is blocking access for some reason, if it isn't then we need to try changing the network setup.

When you ftp into your site you should see a file called index.html in your home directory with some images and other stuff and a directory called acatalog with a lot more files.

                Mike

PS. From what I can see, the dns is pointing to fasthosts server. Does that sound correct?

its letting me in and the details are correct, the only problem is that when i upload its all going in to the cgi-bin and not in in to root?

                  how do i do this?

also i add i just did a test via the network setup and everything is ok bar this which came up at the end

"Your Catalog URL appears to be invalid. The files uploaded to the given 'Path from cgi-bin to acatalog directory', can not be downloaded via the browser on the given Catalog URL. These two access routes don't point to the same destination on the server."

Can you post your network settings as there's probably something wrong in there.

The easiest way to do this is to export the settings to a text file, open it in notepad or similar and then copy and paste it into the forum. Make sure you delete or overwrite your username and password and you can also change your url if you don't want it to be visible.

                      Thanks mike,

youve been agreat help i have got it sorted it was that i had ./acatalog instead of ../acatalog!!!!!

i did a newtwork test and everything was fine just uploading as we speak!

the only thing i am a bit wary of is my payment providers (protx and paypal) might be affected as i took the ssl bit out? i know it does not need to be ssl as they go of to there little bit when the consumer puts in there details but it has always be on since i have had it?

Now it's working you can try turning on SSL and seeing if it works.

The PSPs should work without it but I have had one customer ask about SSL during the checkout phase so there is some interest in it.

I don't know enough about SSL to say what you need to do and whether your existing certificate will work or not. Your hosts should know part of the answer and if you run into problems with actinic I'm sure someone else here will be able to help.

the checkout bit is missing the images because it's trying to find them in the root directory rather than in the acatalog directory where they're sitting.

Did you set the catalog url in network settinsg to have the /acatalog/ at the end?
