    Brochure pages are S L O W!

My site (crazydaves) seems to be pretty quick (for it's size), and I can whizz round the sections quickly, and even the CGI based pages are ok. But when I go to one of the brochure pages (contact us, quality, ordering, security) it takes ages for them to come up - and mostly they are just text.

So, firstly, is it just me or are they slow for everyone? And if slow, any idea why...?

I agree with you John. The brochure pages are very slow. Sorry don't know why that could be though.

Did not find that at all - did not make any difference whether I went to a section list, a product list, an individual product page, contact, security, delivery - all were delivered pretty abruptly, and even more immmediately on revisiting any page.

My usual page checker won't look at your page as it says it's too large at more than 1.5 Mbytes

That would probably explain the slowness.

This is the page I looked at http://www.crazydaves.co.uk/silver-r...din-33870.html

On the above page link the Act_section_tree.js is 1.4mb alone!! This is not showing on the product pages .. may be worth checking the Act_BrochurePrimary.html and see what is in there and if needed

                    wow, that's a useful tool...

seems my brochure page had this extra line in, although given that the section menu works just fine without it I'm not sure what it is actually supposed to do...?

                    <SCRIPT LANGUAGE="JavaScript" SRC="Act_section_tree.js" TYPE="text/javascript"></SCRIPT>

That script appears in some of the themes for displaying the section navigation etc. With a large site the file size soon ramps up. You may have introduced it by accident if copying and pasting templates between sites etc.

Have you deleted and working OK?

OK - just revisited the page and it is much more healthy

Glad you got it sorted as must have been scaring people away with the wait.

I'm getting a similar problem again, except this time on all pages - and only in IE.

When I visit the page it displays the header (logos and menu bar), and then sits there for a while, and then the rest of the page appears. It seems to do this on all pages. But in firefox it appears pretty much instantly...

Firstly, can anyone else see this problem (or is it just me), and if so any ideas...? (and I checked the .js file from before and it's not present, nor do the pages look overely large)

I also find that your pages are slow. In FF the page is rendered as-downloaded but in IE it is rendered differently but both have the problem - so not browser related. I think it's probably related to your scripts. You have remote loading scripts; statcounter, liveperson & websitestats running on each page. I think the delay maybe due to the response of one of them.
