    Basket keeps emptying itself

I've just uploaded a new site - it's pretty much the default actinic site - but the basket seems to have ahole in the bottom 'cause everything just keeps falling out.

When I add the product it seems to work, then returns me to the homepage after a pause. The homepage shows "there is one product in your basket", but if I try going to the basket or checkout it says the basket is empty.

This is from the same client as my other websites which work fine so it can't be a local browser/cookie setting, and it is with the same host (indeed same server) as my other sites, so again can't see that it's a server issue.

It's pretty much default settings all round in actinic itself as it is the 'default' website with only a few minor changes.

I've uploaded, refreshed, changed the perl script numbers etc.

The site is http://www.aromamist.co.uk/ - any ideas?

It works for me. Probably a dodgy cookie on your PC or you're entering the website without www. in the url.

Try clearing out your actinic cookie and entering your website from the link in your post above.

If you want to try and debug the problem, then first repeat what you've been doing but look at the url displayed in your cart versus that used on the webpages.

are you absolutely sure you aren't jumping between http://www.aromamist.co.uk/ and http://aromamist.co.uk/

I just tested the site and whilst i remained with www the basket stayed full, I then removed the www (by editting the URL in the browser) and the basket immediately emptied

ok, this is now officially annoying...

I've just created a brand new site, absolutely no changes to it whatsoever except to import the network settings. Done a complete refresh, deleted all the cookies, gone into firefox and deleted all the history/cache/cookies etc, folled the link above, checked it's no changing between www.aromamist and aromamist and it' STILL not working. tried ie as well.

give us the pages you are visiting in the correct order to see if we can regenerate the same error....

I've also had a good mess around with the site and can see no problems.
Only thing (as expected) is if I change from www.ar... to just .ar.., then basket appears empty until viewed once - then it returns to www.ar.. and the coockie is used again.

for no apparent reason, it now seems to work - don't you just hate it when that happens!

I've been playing with other sites since the last post, so no idea what has made it suddenly work - I followed EXACTLY the same steps as before but now I can't get it to fail...

Great. now it's done it again on my test server with a different site. Same thing again, it happens with both browsers. I've tried clearing the caches in both browsers, deleting tempory internet files, refreshing the server - even going as far deleting every single file from the website directory on the server and rebooting the server, compacting the database, loading a completely different site to the same server.

Still no change. It's like once the server is 'broken' it is 'cursed' for future use even with different sites. Something somewhere is remembering something.

So I uploaded the site to my online test server instead (www.aromamist.co.uk) and it worked fine... until I did something... and then it stopped working in the same way...

This something is also something I did on my local test server shorlty before it had this problem - but not something I did when I originally had this problem back when I open the thread... So it looks like the guilty party on this occasion, but not the only cause of the problem...

And what I did was this -

                        http://community.actinic.com/showthr...isplay+the+SID

(trying to add stuff to the cart from a link)

Does that give anyone a clue as to what might be causing this *really* annoying problem (or how to 'reset' it)?

                          John,

Can we have an example of a faulty link please.

                          Kind regards,

                            http://www.aromamist.co.uk/acatalog/Basic_Products.html

It seems to be ok now, and I can't seem to get it to fail... and I think we established it was something local anyway as it worked for everyone else.

but try the 'add 5' link in the calculator test - maybe that will break it...

The annoying thing is that it seems to happen at random, resists all attempts to fix it and then just fixes itself sometime later...
