    Primary Templates ????

Having got to grips with catalogue sections, etc etc and the use of the Primary Template, I an now trying to tidy up things like the Contact Us Form page and Search Pages.

But these seem to use the same template as the one denoted in

Design > Options > Default Overall layout

Unfortunately i want to tweek my Search Page and Contact Page and was hoping I could generate a Primary template for these or at least be able to control some CUSTOMVAR's ?

Q1. Is there a way of dictating the template for such pages ? or
Q2. Inputting Properties, (CUSTOMVAR content) for these pages ?
Q3. How do i sort out the bounce page, i.e. the page that is shown on sending the mail, etc at the mo my template is in tatters ? What is it called ?

    Any help appreciated.

My Contact Form Page : http://www.esafetysigns.co.uk/cgi-bi...CTION=SHOWFORM
    My Catalogue Home : http://www.esafetysigns.co.uk/acatalog/index.html

See .... they are all the same Template, (you notice this because of the text in the first column of the page content is the same).

Design | Options | Layouts tab shows you which layouts you can specify individually and allows you to change the assigned template.

      further

so could you copy the overall layout, rename it and save as eg: search layout,
tweak to your hearts content, and select it as the layout for the search results.
i know you can have the drop down layout list populated with your new layout but i cant remember which file you add it to, and seem to remember there are two files that need altering to acomplish this.
Simbo thanks you in advance again

        Yes to all.

The Template lists are held in ini files within the site folder - as always, BEFORE altering ANY of the files, make a secure backup of the current file, so you can recover from any over enthusiasm

Good I am glad its do'able, its just that I can't see where the Templates are Changed.

          Can you be more specific?

          When I go to Design > Options > Layouts all I see is the following;

          Primary Templates -------------------------------------------
          Default Overall Layout <pull down box> |Edit| |Select|
          Login Page Layout <pull down box> |Edit| |Select|
          Front Page Layout <pull down box> |Edit| |Select|
          Checkout Pages Layout <pull down box> |Edit| |Select|
          Receipt Page Layout <pull down box> |Edit| |Select|
          View Cart Layout <pull down box> |Edit| |Select|
          -------------------------------------------------------------

          then I have:

          Section Link Templates ---------------------------------------
          Product Templates -------------------------------------------
          Extended Product Information ---------------------------------

          Which ones do I modify?

There is clearly no templates called
          Search Layout
          Contat Us Layout etc ..

          Thanks, Simon.

i've got a feeling the search and contact pages use the checkout_Primary, thus can not have their own template

              No its not Act_CheckoutPrimary.html.

I know this because my template of this file is the original Retro template, yet my Search and Contact Us pages have esafetysign specific content.

I believe its the Default Overall Layout ? I suppose this does make sense!

              I'll change this and experiment.

Howver, what is the Front Page Layout ? Whats the Front Page ?

              Over and out, S.

                looking at this myself

i cant figure out where act_searchtemplate is told to nest, or if this is changable.
if it is its just a matter of following my post abouve, and then swaping the overall template in which act_searchtemplate nests to the new template you create.
in v8 you could probably expand to the parent level of act_searchtemplate and see exactly, not sure...

The outer (main) part of the search page and contact us page use Act_Primary - I think you can only modify the inner template parts. Such as Act_ContactUs and Act_Search****.

                        Deffo V7 ...

                        Hi All,

                        OK, done some experimenting....

In V7, If you go to Design > Options > Layouts you see ....
                        Primary Templates -------------------------------------------
                        Default Overall Layout
                        Login Page Layout
                        Front Page Layout
                        Checkout Pages Layout
                        Receipt Page Layout
                        View Cart Layout
                        -------------------------------------------------------------
along with pull down boxes to select your page templates.

Act_Primary and Act_PrimaryBrochure are the two core templates provided by Actinic, and the following applies:

Default Overall Layout is the one to control the view of you Contact Us Page and Search Page.

I have just changed my templates and checked this out, these are definately governed by Default Overall Layout.

Now, my next question is the views shown by pages such as:

                        http://www.esafetysigns.co.uk/cgi-bi...CTION=SHOWCART
                        or
                        http://www.esafetysigns.co.uk/cgi-bi...l?ACTION=Start
                        or
                        http://www.esafetysigns.co.uk/cgi-bi...B=A&GB=A&PR=-1

i.e. pages that are displayed when you click View basket, Checkout, or your Serch results are nil, at the mo my pages are full of disconnected images from the original Actinic templates ?

I want these pages to like they are from my site ?

                        Thanks, Simon.

                          Hi Simon

Like its been mentioned in this thread, in V7 the layouts used by the different parts of the site are specified in Design | Options | Layouts . If you want the checkout, search pages etc to look like your main catalog page then all you need to do is make sure all the parts of the site use the same template as the "Default Overall Layout". For example if the "Default Overall Layout" says 'Actinic Original Primary Template" that all the other's like "Checkout Pages Layout" , "View Cart Layout" etc should be the same.

Sorted on Contact Us and Search Page... no worries ....

...and the answer to my question on the bounce pages is that CHECKOUT PAGES LAYOUT is the one .

                            All sorted, S.
