can i have two priceses on my site so one for the customer to see and the other as a "cost to us" price that the custmoer doesnt see but so we can get an idea of the profit of what weve sold.

You can add a customvar to the product with the cost price in it but this will not be used in any reports so it you would need to write your own to get an overall view.
I have in the past written utilities to add this as an extra field to the product table (along with a %age margin) and provided reporting facilities based on these. This seems to work quite nicely but again needs specialist software to set the fields and specialist reports to examine the fields.
