But is there a huge difference in performance
Its not that may be the problem it that google may treat your site as being a US one especially with your .com domain and exclude it from the UK search results - unless you are targeting the US in which case then the set up is ideal.

Speed tests on US hosted sites are usually slower than UK ones, however it can be tested by pinging the server. The speed and the SEO issues are two fundamental issues for a website hosted in the US and however much you perceive that you are saving, it is a false economy.

It can sometimes be difficult work out whether US or UK hosters, on your site it is very obvious by looking at the phone numbers they provide, another way is to look up the domain on the DNS register.

If you want another option you can become a reseller yourself, it may work out cheaper!. eg you can become a reseller with webfusion for about £26 per month. For this you will get unlimited webspace and bandwidth plus if you have several websites you will be able to host them all for the same price - the only extra will be £25pa domain mapping but if you are paying for several sites then the maths are easy to do.
Aha - I've just opened two accounts with WF totalling about £35 per month, plus I have accounts with others which could be transferred .

Is a reseller account with WF just a bit more complex than a normal shared account, or are we heading into dedicated server country in terms of hassle?

Would it be considered risky to put all one's accounts and domains into one reseller package?

I moved to Webfusion a while ago because they said their servers were in the UK, and if you use Mal's country checker it does show United Kingdom for my sites, and their website makes a big issue of UK infrastructure for all accounts. However, I just spoke to WF about a reseller account and they told me that all their shared servers (including Reseller) are in Germany - "only the dedicated servers are in the UK"

Did I get through to a complete barmpot having a bad day, or are their servers in Germany but made to appear as if they are hosting in the UK (is this possible?)?
