    Actinic crashes when switching sites

This hasn't happened before today, but now when I switch between sites in Developer, Actinic seems to hang (the main screen disappears, only remaining in the titlebar). I have to terminate the process and restart. Anyone had this happen before?

Not personally but try switching task (alt-tab) maybe it is still active. There was some talk of something similar a few days ago but it may have been related to V8.

Graham which patch of v7 are you using? I recall this happened a few times back on the early patches but have been OK since (v7.0.4) .. although could be coincidence.

Erm using 7.0.6. Really strange since it only started doing it today!

It gets better, last time I tried I was presented with

A severe error occurred. The thread attempted to read from a virtual address for which it does not have appropriate access. Actinic will attempt to recover.

Methinks it might be a memory problem.

            Methinks it's time to backup!

                Hi,

Having a look at this and it seems like this is and issue that was fixed some time ago(v7.0.5). This seems to happen if there is something going wrong with the backup you make after you exit the current site. Can you check to see if this still happens if you go to 'Housekeeping | Backup | Shutdown Backup Options..' and set it to never.

Let me know if that helped. The other option is a registry fix, but I would rather not go that route as it could cause ructions.

                Kind regards,

Will do Bruce - and will report back when I am able to fully test - although I must say that its not exactly best practice to stop prompting for a back up.
The whole idea of that exit prompt is to encourage regular back ups.

Could you confirm if you are saying that performing a back up prior to switching sites is the culprit, or is it just the exit prompt screen (do you wish to perform a back up) that is causing the problem?

                    Martin,

I asked you to switch it off and try to see if that then allows you to make a back-up, it is not advisable to turn this feature off permanently unless you are a stickler and make a back-up every time, weather prompted or not.

The issue is with the back-up prior to switching sites. If you can let me know then I can suggest a registry solution.

                    Kind regards,
