Free Shipping when all weights are zero

Hi all

Shipping raises it's ugly muggly once again - have trawled through every thread to do with shipping and v.7 but can't find an answer to this scenario.

All our products have no weight - as in the box is clear - we use flat rate shipping. One flat rate for UK, one flat rate for International. Customers chooses country on check out, this works fine and correct shipping is charged.

We now want to allow one group of products to be shipped FOC (in electronic format), but if other physical products are added at the same time, this triggers the shipping charge.

I can see how this is done when your regular products have weights, as you can set the FOC products with a zero weight = 0.00 shipping and normal products = 0.01 (or whatever) adds shipping.

So fine, if an order is placed for the FOC shipping product alone, no shipping is charge - add a product and shipping is automatically triggered.

But how do you do this when your normal products have no weight? If you set up the FOC product with a weight, no matter how high, it will always give free shipping when somebody orders this along with a product.

Does that make sense?

Couldn't you set the FOC products to have zero weight, and the normal products to all have say 0.01. Then set up the tables with:
0g = £0.0
10kg = flat rate

An FOC product will incur no charge. Any number of normal products should total less than 10kg and more than 0 and incur the flat rate.

I'm guessing that you don't want the hassle of adding a weight to all the existing products.

Which is fine because you don't have to.

Set a default weight of 0.01. Set a specific weight of 0.0 on the free items (this will override the default), and off you go.
