Inserting Images into side bars

I am fairly new user of Actinic Catlog and am just staring to find my way around the various templates, but am not sure how I should be inserting images that I want to appear in the right side bar on every catalog page (eg. insdie the "Right Title" box.
I am using the Smart theme and the correct template appears to be act_primary.

I am using Dreamweaver to assist, but if I just insert an image directly using DW I get a warning from Actinic about being withing the site1 folder which they are (actually Site1/Images), but when I upload the site the image is missing. What am I doing wrong.

Any template based image files are best kept in the root of the site folder (not a subfolder) .. this is a little messy but Actinic should handle it OK

Thanks, That has fixed the problem, although initially it complained about "img src=" being in the template but when I updated the website again it was fine.

Just to clarify things. Is the most popular way of added images to templates to use CUSTOMVARS or just insert from Dreamweaver (or other methods)

Either way - but if you intend changing them regularly then CVs is probably more convenient.

This can be safely ignored if you know the code is correct and working - it is just a warning as Actinic is unable to verify the code is correct and will function correctly.

Another option which prevents the whole site being reloaded (just to change an image in the side bar) is to save the new image with the same filename as the old ... therefore the code remains the same and only a single image file is uploaded to the server.

To add to all of the above ....

1. Cannot emphasise the importance of "Site1" to locate ALL OF YOUR FILES. I fell foul to this problem by having a lovely neat directory structure to organise all of my images...... biggest mistake ever..... took me months to resolve... put everything into "..../site1"

2. Use CV's, they are a bit scary at first but help you understand Actinic as well as give you greater flexibility with page control later, which you are bound to need once you get going.

3. However, i have embedded my Header, i.e. what is seen on every page always.

4. I use DW, upload the Actinic Extension for Dreamweaver, from Actinic (not sure where), but I found it easy when I first started, it helps immensely with getting to grips with Actinic. Ensure Compact HTML/CGI is unticked in Design > Options. (If you get stuck with this give me a shout).

use DW, upload the Actinic Extension for Dreamweaver, from Actinic

This is a V7 post so the DW Extension is not used (V8 only) in V7 you will need to use the template manager to link with DW.

Your probably right Malcolm, I assumed it was a DW extension because of its name and how I installled it?

Darren, the file you need will be found at

....\Actinic v7\Extensions\Dreamweaver\Actinic_Assistant

Its called Actinic Assistant.mxp

I am assuming this is how I received V7, its been a long while now, perhaps it was me who created that Directory ? Check your version.
