Problem when uploading site to server

Ive had to have a new domain that we own setup on a new server with our hosting company. The DNS nameservers for the domain were submitted yesterday morning, and you can access the site via the domain name on the browser.

Have done a test on the network setup configuration within actinic and it passes no problem. A screenshot of these settings is attached.

During around 95% of uploading the files in actinic an error message appears (again screenshot attached)

Can anyone make sense of it?

I also setup the network settings so that it was uploading the site to MY own personal webspace and it worked fine, which makes me believe this to be a problem with the hosting ?

The error message suggest I refresh the site, which makes no difference.

If you actually browse our site and on the homepage click on PRODUCTS, or if you go into the main shop (enter here on the homepage), and view a department from the drop down box on the left of the screen, you get this general script error msg:


A General Script Error Occurred

Error: Error opening ../httpdocs/acatalog/86Z132Z174Z245A1175075983B3456.session (Permission denied)Press the Browser back button and try again or contact the site owner

This error message only appears when i am trying to upload to this server, if I upload to my own personal webspace then as I mentioned above the site works fine, I can only assume this is because the site has not completely uploaded all the files as it chucks an error at around 85% of the uploading time.

Normally the path to cgi-bin would be ../acatalog/ i.e. without the httpdocs bit.

Have just been speaking on tech support to the hosting company who inform that our domain name has not fully DNS resolved.

Could this still be the issue ?

Unfortunately does not work for me, however the network settings on my first post, works, and it passes the test as well.

your network settings are now gobbledegook.

if you use the IP
then catalog url and cgi-bin url will be

ip/acatalog/
ip/cgi-bin/

as Mike says loose the httpdocs bits, it is wrong.

I would stop using the IP as thisis confusing matters. I don't think you have a dedicated IP which is making your life more complex than it needs to be.

Just go with the domain name (DNS was changed over 24 hours ago so it should not be an issue now.

Run the network wizard, making sure you use
www.dutchdomain.co.uk as doamin
www.dutchdomain.co.uk/acatalog/ for catalog url
www.dutchdomain.co.uk/cgi-bin/ for cgi-bin

and

../acatalog/ for path from cgi-bin to acatalog

let the wizard work out path from cgi-bin to acatalogas viewed by the FTP server

I did what you suggested, and set up the network configuration as above then used the wizard work out everything else. Still got the same setting as stated in the screenshot on my first post

Hi Bruce, no the cgi-bin folder is not within the httpdocs.
When I connect onto FTP using Filezilla this is the tree structure.

I did what you suggested though above, and did the test but Actinic throws up an error when trying to upload a test script during the wizard process. Am sure this is something to do with the web hosting ? And relating to permissions ? Am I right or wrong?

Ok the domain has now DNS resolved. And I have configured what settings have been mentioned to from Jo and Bruce above.

I goto the wizard and do the step by step process however, when it gets to the stage where it uploads a test script, i get an error message.

I thought you had your settings already entered in 'Web | Network setup'. If they are, then go in here and click on test to see if the test goes through. Dont use the wizard to test the settings, it si meant to help you get the settings you require into Actinic.

Let us know what happens when you run a test.

All sorted. In the end it turns out that the permissions on the hosting of the webspace were not set to full control, therefore did not have permission to write, or modify files that were uploaded, or being uploaded!

Had to basically shout at our hosting company as they didnt have a clue!
They were trying to fob me off with the excuse that the domain had not yet resolved, although dnsstuff.com told me otherwise!

The network settings I originally posted at the top of this thread were/are correct, as when I did a test it passed. But because I was getting errors when uploading via Actinic I put into question these settings.

Got the permissions modified to full control, uploaded via Actinic and worked fine. With the hosting company we go through here at work, we don't have the accessibility to modify the permission settings ourselves, we have to go through the hosting company! Useless.

Anyway its now sorted and hopefully if any others have this problem they know what to do now!

I am getting the same error messages in relation to cgi-bin, chmod is set to 777, the path to cgi-bin is correct, I don't know what else to try?
