    Website can't accept orders (v6)

Last night, it was impossible to access my site for a while - all that was displayed was:

BAD REQUEST (INVALID HOSTNAME). After a while, that problem resolved itself but now, when customers try and make an order, they get:

"An error occurred while attempting to generate a unique order number.
Actinic ecommerce is unable to lock the counter file. Permission denied"

Also, all my incoming emails are duplicated about 6 times..!

    Any ideas folks?

    Doug

Sounds like a hosting problem - try a refresh and if that fails a purge and refresh (note if you do this you will loose any orders on the server)

Just to say, this isn't the case. A purge and refresh deletes *.cat and *.fil files, and can replace all the Perl files., but won't affect any orders that are on the site.

I'd also suggest first though going into 'Web | Network Setup' and clicking 'Test' and see what results you get.

Odd it has with me in the past

Well, to be on the safe side, you could log in via FTP to your site and then copy any *.ord files to a different folder on the server as a backup - but the 'Purge' part really just does the actinic bits (cat files and fil files). It doesn't do anything else.

Chris, there is no Network Setup under "Web" but there is under "Advanced". Is that the same thing? If so, it didn't report any problems.

I've tried an Update and got:

            "200 Type set to A.
            227 Entering Passive Mode (212,38,95,101,115,136)
            550 bb000000.pl: Access is denied"

            followed by:

"An error occurred while transferring files to the web site.

            Possible Cause:
            Network timed out
            Network is down
            FTP server is down
            Remote server disk is full
The permissions on the file or directory on the remote
            server are locked
If the file being sent is a CGI script
(nqxxxxxx.pl or caxxxxxx.pl) someone else may be
using the same CGI script ID as you.
            Recommendations:
            Abort
            Resolution:
            Re-establish your network connection
Be sure the FTP server is running
Try re-installing the web site when the network is not so busy
Make sure the disk is not full on the remote server
Make sure the website and cgi-bin directories
on the remote server are writable
Make sure the files in the cgi-bin and website are writable
Make sure your CGI script ID in the Advanced |
Network Setup... dialog is unique for your web server.

            File: bb000000.pl"

Any further ideas? Is the Purge and refresh option still valid?

No - as the problem seems to be at the host end - give them a call and see if they are having problmes.

In this case, isn't the host Actinic? The

occurs after payment method is selected and prior to moving to the SSL which is hosted by Actinic.

Just to add a comment, I've never lost an order info when using the delete cat/fil/pl/pm method to tidy up webspace nor have I lost any orders using website purge and refresh.

It is a valuable tool, I hope Mal can do some testing to convince himself that order info does not get removed.

you should know who your host is, what is the domain? who do you pay for hosting?
you can do a DNS look up and the name servers will identify your host

Guys, Never take for granted how much an idiot knows
                            - I hardly know a Server from a Waiter.

Anyway, it was Actinic and it's now sorted - something to do with with permissions not being reset after the site went down for some reason last night.

Thanks for your help and for coping with a computer illiterate
