    Cart Errors after Hosting Change

We are running Actinic V6, which was just moved from one web host to another. It did not use SSL with either one.

We installed the cart first into the temporary domain given to us by the web host. The cart worked fine. We then set the nameservers for the domain and moved it to the space. At some point after that, the cart began to have intermittent errors. We had uploaded it using the desktop software to the temporary domain, and then we reuploaded it later using the actual domain.

The errors seem to occur at one specific point in the transaction process. If we click View Cart, and then Checkout, we get an error - on my computer, in Mozilla and IE, it gives a "Not Acceptable" or 406 error. On the client computer, using IE, it gives an error that says something about not being able to read the file type.

We can use the back button to go back to a product page, and then click Checkout, and it goes, but of course, our customers just think the cart isn't working and that this company is unreliable.

I did try to delete the *.fil files as suggested in one of the FAQs, but I could not find all of the ones listed, and the error persists.

Any suggestions for solving this problem as quickly as possible would be greatly appreciated. The cart is for a small business to whom every order counts, and they really need the business.

    Thanks,

I would manually delete all files on the server and then do a completely fresh upload and see if it persists.

Instead of an upload please do a refresh 'Web | Refresh Website'.

The way to do a manual purge is to...
      1. Manually FTP to your server

      2. Delete all the .pl & .pm files within your /cgi-bin/ folder

      3. Delete all the .cat & .fil within your /acatalog/ folder ( sort by type )

      4. On your local PC, please go to 'C:\Program Files\Actinic Ecommerce v6\Sites\Site1'

      5. Delete all the .pl & .pm and .cat & .fil files here as well

      6. Go to the folder 'C:\Program Files\Actinic Ecommerce v6\Original' and copy the .pl and .pm and paste them back into your Site1 folder

      Now refresh the site.

Please note if you have made any script changes then you will have to reapply these once this process is completed.

Be a bit careful here as your ISP may have provided some scripts that you won't want to delete.

The Actinic files all look similar. They will all be <something>000001.pl or <something>000001.pm where <something> is 2 or 3 alphabetic characters.

I followed the instructions for deleting the .pm, .pl, .cat, and .fil files, and the error persisted - no change at all. IE still reporting that it cannot read the file type.

I then deleted the entire cart from the server, and everything in the cgi-bin folder (it was empty before we installed Actinic). Re-uploaded the cart, and still no change. The error is exactly the same as before.

Any clue what to do next? This is really costing my client, and she is anxious to have the problem solved. Nice about it, but understandably concerned.

            Cart is at:

            http://www.elkmountainherbs.com/acatalog/

Error will occur if you add an item to the cart, go back to the product page, click View Cart, and then Checkout. Most people DO choose "view cart" before they choose Checkout. It does NOT occur if you choose Checkout from a product page.

Nothing unusual about the hosting account - 'nix account.

            Any help appreciated.

I don't know version 6 but a couple of things that may help. The browser is reporting a 406 error (quite rare) on trying to read the page that is generated.

              1. Try changing the script ID and uploading.
              2. If this still persists then I would think that a perl script has been changed on the pc side that is used to create the online scripts. Can you perhaps copy (backup first) over the original v6 scripts again and then upload and test. (in v7 they would be in this location: C:\Program Files\Actinic v7\Original - .pl and .pm)

Where would I find the Script ID?

I did use the backups as you suggest - deleted them from the Site 1 folder, copied them over from the Originals folder before uploading again.

Well, I am beyond frustrated. I have deleted the .pm and .pl files, and the .cat and .fil files more than once, after trying various other setting changes as well. I have upgraded Actinic with the latest patch, and re-deleted the files before refreshing the site once again.

The error still persists. Is this possibly something with the server? Or is there anything else I should try? The client is very concerned also.

Time to think outside the box?

Remove the checkout link from the shopping cart - if its not there then they cannot press it

Both checkout buttons point to different links and both fail. There would appear to be something fundamentally wrong. I'm not even sure the 2 files they point to are the correct ones. Have the script names changed for later versions?

which was just moved from one web host to another.
                          Try moving it back

                            Cannot move it back.

The odd thing is, the Checkout link DOES work when it is clicked just from the product page.

I am going to install the Actinic software onto a different computer, and then attempt to clean up the files and do a restore from there. If that does not work, then I'll move the site to another server.

                            But it sure is exasperating.

one odd thing i did notice is that when i looked at the shopping cart it had a dufferent chechout button to the rest - this normally indicates that the site has not updated correctly and the button may still be linked to the old site.

try doing a change to the basket template which will force an update to the server
