    Corrupt Product

    Hi

I am creating some new products in catalogue (v5.1.4) and am getting the following error fairly often.

    1. Create a new product with attributes
    2. Try to open product after create (prior to upload)

Now get the following error message box, "shipping and handling" "please enter no more than 6 characters", click OK and the product opens, however, the individual fields now read as follows.

    Reference: test
    Short Description: (now blank)
    Price: $0
    Full Description: (now blank)
    Image: (now blank)

    General Tab
    Information Link Text: NNA
File/URL: Now contains part of the full description of another product
Product Layout: now contains part of the Image path of another product
    Minimum Quantity:0
Weight in Kg: now contains last few characters from the File/URL field. (we don't use the shipping by weight)

If you view the product in the product tree it looks correct, as are the attributes (which you can open OK) and even on Page Preview, it looks correct so it appears to only be an issue when trying to open the product.

Have been trying to idenify the cause and it appears to be something to do with the product above which is using "Dummy product template, useful for inserting text." as the product layout and is just some text. If I move this text product somewhere else in the product tree I can then open the corrupt product without an issue. I have tried deleting the text product and recreating but the same thing still happens.

    Any thoughts or ideas appreciated......

That is a really odd one - I have never come across it before.

I'm wondering if there is an issue in the 'Dummy product' template which causes an invalid sequencing of the fields, but then this should only affect the generated pages - not the actual data in the database.

My first suggestion is to go to 'Housekeeping | Compact Databases' and see if this helps out. I would probably suggest taking a backup beforehand just in case there is some corruption which the compaction makes worse.

Also, if you have Access 2000, you could open up the ActinicCatalog.mdb file and have a look see at the 'Product' table to see what is happening there.

Alternatively, it could be a user interface issue - although this is very unlikely. You could get hold of the full version of 5.1.4 from http://support.actinic.com/versions/ and re-install it over the top. Obviously, back up your Site1 folder somewhere safe first.
