    Zero value coupons

I want to use coupons to track the results of different (offline) adverts. To do this I will offer the customer a free gift when they enter the special 'promotional code' from the advert.

The gift would then appear as a zero value item in the basket with an appropriate description.

The only problem is that zero value discounts don't show up in the basket... is there another way to acheive the same result...?

I've tried a coupon that adds a surcharge AND a discount of the same amount, and also tried a very very small % amount, but it seems that somewhere there is a statement that just deletes the amount if it equals zero.

As this is a very specific site with only 2 products I don't mind playing with the perl files if someone can point out what is doing it...

Or is there another way? I don't mind if the 'free' gift shows up in the basket as a item costing £5.00 and then having a discount of £5.00 that's cancels it out. Or just a single zero value item with a description of "free gift worth £5.00" - either way would work for me. But it just needs to be tied to the valid coupon code....

      John,

This works on a basic setup. I disabled the default '3 for 2' offer and then created a new discount called 'Free Product', based on 'Quantity' with a trigger value of '1', requires coupon code, selected a product group (please note reward product cannot be of same group), set the reward type to '% of extra Product' and reward amount of '100%'.

It shows it all through checkout.

      Kind regards,

Please note, this extra product will not add itself, it needs to be added by clicking on the discount promotional text in the cart.

Having read extensively through many threads on the subject of discounts in V7 I am still no nearer finding a solution to my requirements.

I want to send an email to our customers which when they click a certain link will automaticall assign a free product to their shopping cart when they spend over £XX.

I have various other discounts set up on our system and would not want to remove any of these products from their product groups if that would be required.

Can V7 do what I am looking for? When looking at the discount settings I can't see anywhere to specify a free product when setting up an offer based on £X spend.

          Please can anyone help.

          Regards

Many thanks - I did see this but assumed as it was under the V8 section it only applied to that. Also point 1 states to put all products except free on in a product group. In my attempts to try and get this set up myself originally I did try this but then was prompted to remove some of the products from other groups which I do not want to do.

Will V8 allow products in multiple groups where V7 will not?

No unfortunately it's the same as v7 - only one group membership per product. However perhaps you can just isolate your free product into it's own group to do this.
