Shopping Cart, Checkout, refresh's slow ....

Hi,

Is there any reason why the Shopping Cart and Checkout page creation/refresh's are slow?

Everytime I move between these pages and especially back to the catalogue the refresh is not good, especialy compared to my inter-page movements around the catalogue, which are OK?

Any reasoning for this?

Hi Simon,

Probably because the pages are running through perl scripts. Maybe your server is slow processing scripts.

What platform are you running on (e.g. IIS or Linux)? If running Linux you can see if the hosting company has Mod_Perl installed to improve performance on Apache servers:

are you talking about the pages within actinic when you are working within the software or are you talking about the live site.

Is there anything on your site for sale so i can check the checkout

Yes on the live site.

Goto http://www.esafetysigns.co.uk/acatalog/eye_01.html and Add to Cart, anything on this page.

Hit the Shopping Basket and Checkout buttons respectively there on and you will see what I am seeing?

What I did notice is that it is not so much going into the Cart etc, its coming back to the Catalogue thats a bit slow?

Checkout was fairly instantaneous for me.... I added stuff, removed it, viewed basket and went to checkout

All this on a pretty rubbish 2mg connection

I am glad you are getting a good response. Thats the main thing!

It was the return back to the catalogue that was a bit slow for me and as I go to the cart throughout the buying process, this was a bit off-putting.

Perhaps I can avoid going to the cart on each "Add to Cart" action, and only go on request to go to the cart by the user?

How do I do this ?

Anyone else had a go, what do you think?

The return to the catalog pages are definately slower. Maybe not massively but i expect the return would be to cached data, therefore pretty instant?

Anything we can do?

It's pretty quick for me too. Have you tested it on other PC's in your office?

Also what browser are you using? (I'm using IE7).

If you don’t want to be taken straight to the shopping cart after adding to cart you need to change the shopping mode to "Quantity on Product Page". This can be set globally (Design | Options | Shop Defaults - Shopping mode) or per section (Section Details | Layout - Shopping Mode).

Thanks for having a look, and I will dabble with changing my settings to avoid going to basket on each 'Add to Cart'.

I'm still on IE6 and have tried it on other PC's, but the bottom line is that if consensus says its good..... its good!
