    moving V7 to new pc

I am trying to move my V7 store to a new PC but I keep getting the following errors:

Warning: Some of the configuration variables were not found in the HTML templates. If you modified these templates, make sure the results are what you want. If you have not modified the templates, the files are probably corrupt. Try restoring them from a backup or contact your Actinic reseller or Actinic Support as appropriate.

    Act_Order04.html and Act_Order01.html

I have tried copying the 2 files from an earlier back up but it doesn't fix it. I am trying it again now but it is taking a very long time to purge the files

Can someone please let me know how to fix this on the new pc. I want to be able to upload and retrieve orders from the new pc.

I can still up load ok on the old machine - havnt removed anything from that machine yet just in case I had a problem and low and behold I do

    Cheers,

    Graham

What amendments have you made to these two files? Do you have some tracking software installed?

Is this error appearing when you try to do a snapshot?

I made a couple of changes a while ago, changed colours and a couple of other minor things, and everything has been ok on my old machine and still is.

I am just setting up a new pc running XP and followed these instuctions from a similar post:

      4. Export a complete site snapshot. Probably export databases as well for good measure?
      5. Install Actinic on new machine same V7.07 as old machine
      6. Upgrade to newer version of Actinic (should I stick with 8.0.3 or should I go with a newer version?)
      7. Import site snapshot

When I do a snapshot from the old machinr it comes out ok and it says successful when I import it to the new machine.

      Thanks for the help,

      Graham

To clarify, it is my understanding you are installing the upgraded version?

Have you installed V7 and then imported before upgrade and ensured all is working BEFORE you upgrade?

        Did you use any CUSTOMVARS?

Remember the lastest Production version is 8.5 (8.5.1 is still in BETA)

I installed V7.04 from the disk I was sent (cos thats the one that came with the activation key), I then upgraded to V7.07 using the patch so that it is the same version as the one on my old machine, then imported the latest snapshot I had made from my old machine.

I figured everything would be ok as it is all ok on my old machine and I m using the same OS ie XP SP2 on the new machine.

I am not using V8 yet as we havnt finished the changes so I thought it best to continue using the same version as what is on the old machine.

You don't want to be using your CD and then a patch. Once a newer version than your CD is available, your CD is basically scrap, apart from the license key.

ALWAYS download the latest version off the actinic site and then use your license key off the CD to license it.

now that Actinc charge for delivery i don't even bother to get the CD from them. All you need is the key and download.

I think the main advantage of getting the CD is the printed manual that comes with it, but i tend to agree with you.

                  Thanks for info.

I had started to download the full V7.07, so after what you have just said I will just uninstall what I have on there at the moment and install the downloaded full version.

I assume that the key will still be the same

                  Thanks for the help

Your key will remain the same throughout all V7 versions, it is the software version that is changing. Make sure you have a copy of site1 folder and 46 snapshots in various locations (safety deposit, blast proof bunker, black box in a plane etc.)

Then delete everything actinic related, including the site folders which dont get removed and then start again from scratch on a system that has no actinic references.

NB: If you haven't got your site setup correctly or you save your snapshots within the actinic folder, you could experience problems with this process.

                      Just to clarify one point:

After re instalation with full V7.07 and importing snapshot do I then copy over Site1 as well or does the snapshot include everything I need?

Snapshot does it all if you have your site setup correctly. Images all within site folders and nothing referenced outside of the actinic folders etc.

The site1 copy is just a safety net in case you get some shrapnel in your ass.

                          that should do it.

Having a copy of site1 is a "just in case" backup as its not unknown for a snapshot to be corrupt.

I think Lee's reply has the edge over mine due to its more imaginative use of the english language

                              LOL Jo.

I am yet to be caught out by an upgrade process, however i still proceed through it like i am walking through a minefield with size 16 shoes.

It's (for me) a very reliable process, however i regularly soil myself while doing it.
