Changing United Kingdom to Great Britain

The US Postal Service wants either the actual country or "Great Britain" on addresses - not "United Kingdom". If I go to locations and change "United Kingdom" to "Great Britain" will this cause any problems?

It may be worth checking where else 'United Kingdom' is used in text and similar variables.

You can do this by going to Design > Text and using the search string box in the bottom right hand corner of the window type United Kingdom and flick through all the positive search's.

    May help?

      The US Postal Service wants
      Big Brother?

So USPS are now taking the decision of how a sovereign state will be named out of the hands of the legitimate democratically elected government of #The United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland#

How long till Bush sends in the troops?

LOL Bill, that did make me smile.

56 states coming in the not too distant future.

Actinic calls the United Kingdom a country, can hardly blame the Americans for messing it up.

You can change the name in locations, but all older orders may report a problem if you try and open them, as they can no longer find a corresponding country in locations. This shouldn't be the case, but unfortuantely is, as a result of bad database design (the orders db should really store a key referencing a location, not the actual location text, but thats the way the Act boys have chosen to do it, so we are stuck with it!)

If you have MS Access and can edit the order tables (sorry, can't remember which ones hold the location, but a bit of delving will find this), then you could change United Kingdom to Great Britain in locations, and use a simple find and replace update query to update all your old orders to the new location text.

Please bear in mind that the United Kindgom location text is also used in various reports, particularly as part of your own address on invoices, which will now show as Great Britain.

An alternative way is to simply create a new location for Great Britain, but I think you still need to keep the UK one for older orders and for the invoice address issue I mentioned above.
