How Do I Move A Site To Another Computer?

    Hi All,

We have just brought a new computer to produce our websites on, and wish to retire our present machine. However, this was the machine we are producing our Actinic websites on.

How can we safely transfer our websites onto the new machine, so we can continue to work on them there.

    Cheers All

Here's how I doe it (I don't trust the Snapshot feature).

    1. On old system go into Housekeeping Security and copy and paste all info there to a textfile (so it can be copied over to new system).

    2. Install Actinic (use the registration key from step 1) and update if necessary onto new system untill at identical patch level as old one (see Help / About).

    3. Use the registration key and security info from step 1. Go into Housekeeping Security and copy / paste the info from the textfile you made earlier.

    4. On new system delete Site1 and copy entire Site1 from old system in it's place.

That should now have the new system identical to the old. Try a preview and see. You still have the old one in full running order if something went wrong.

Note:- If using a CD to do the copy of Site1 then make sure you right click the new Site1, choose Properties and Untick Read Only (using XP) to remove read only attribute from these files (also select to process sub-folders).

Go to the 'Housekeeping' menu and then go to 'Security'. It is the values in there you want.
