    size of Pages

    Hi all

i have a "generic" question about actinic

we have structured the catalog by console and then by name (page for each letter more or less)

however we think that some pages are becoming heavy (and they will become heavier in the near future)

    E.g. http://www.pnagames.com/acatalog/S__PC_.html

can someone suggest alternative way to structure this without adding any levels on the structure?

That page is 2.6Mb - the images are 2.4Mb.
Optimising the images should be the first port of call.

Apart from the loading time - having so many products on one page (especially one under the other) is difficult to use and I wouldn't scroll down that far looking for something. You could also try having your products in columns to reduce the page length. Ultimately I think you will have to break these sections into smaller ones.

      Hi Duncan

      thanks for your reply.

i think we are wasting a lot of bandwith as you have illustrated. (2.6mb for somebody looking for a specific product is a lot)

we always scale down the images and on average are 20-30K each

i think we will have to add another level unfortunately then on some of the sections (exceeding 20 products per sub section)

is it a way for me to make the first page to appear as the 1st part of the subsection? I.E. when you click s(PC) on the previous page to get the S(PC) 1-20 and not another page with the split (like you normally do)?

On that one page you have eight images that are 175Kb to 250Kb each - you might be able to save >1Mb by optimising those alone.

also is there a way to move the image of each product more to the left and expand the details (so the text will take a more reasonable form)

If you use DW look in the bottom right hand corner of your working environment.

If not, FF as mentioned is great. There are also a raft of free tools out there to check your page speed, size etc.

Just under 1,2Mb - a large improvement but still a heavy page.

                            thanks Duncan

                            sub-sections will be next

i am looking to reduce the size to 1/2 of that for the moment untill we redo all the general images (bar images etc)

                            is that realistic?
