    Duplicate methods of payment

    Hi all

I have just got a Nochex merchant account for my credit card processing.

In my payment types I want to use Nochex for the credit card option and therefor change the name of the payment type from Nochex to Credit / Debit cards.

I also want to be able to offer Nochex as a payment type for those Nochex account holders.

When I try to add an additional payment type, I cannot select Nochex as a type (I assume because there is already one in the list).

Is it possible to add more that one entry of the same payment type or is there an easy way to edit the code behind one of the other types that I will never use to make it work as an additional Nochex type.

    Thanks

    You could apply this by

1 Set your first web payment method to CC then change the web text to Nochex or whatever you wish to say

2 Set your second one to Nochex and configure the payment module there with your a/c details

That should do it as you are only selecting Nochex once.

If I get this slightly wrong then I apologise as I am not in the office at the moment so I am working from memory.

The problem is after I have selected the first Nochex payment method (Nochex as the type in the left hand column) and changed what is displayed on the web site to credit cards (the second column) , I cannot create a new payment method with Nochex as the payment type (in the left hand column) as Nochex is not in the drop down list of types any more.

I assume that once you have created a payment method using that type it no longer appears in the list of options

This is why DJ said to not select Nochex twice as that would be madness and actinic is right to stop you duplicating. He said select 'CC' for one and 'Nochex' for the other. Thus you are selecting 2 different methods in the left hand drop down box.

But the problem is that I need to select Nochex twice.

Nochex do the credit card processing so I need to select them so that the customer is passed to Nochex for processing.

I also want to offer Nochex for Nochex account holders, Just as paypal is almost compulsory to offer these days I am finding more and more people use Nochex.

If I rename the Nochex payment method as Credit / Debit cards I will appear to loose the Nochex option for customers.

I am not sure if I am not understanding the answers or not getting my meaning over correctly.

When setting up the payment options in the business settings section there are 2 columns that are important, the left hand column which is the payment type as actioned by Actinic, (Nochex, Paypal, Worldpay, Credit cards offline, etc)
These are preset within actinic to take the appropriate action to correctly process the payment, for example for the Paypal option the details are passed to paypal's server and then the approval is received back, for the Collect credit cards offline option the details are collected, encrypted and then downloaded. These actions are different and preset for each payment type.

The right hand column shows the name that is displayed on the website that the customer sees and can select from. These names can be edited to say whatever you like.

The problem I have is that I want to offer to the customer the choice of selecting credit / debit cards as a payment method and then have that payment forwarded to Nochex for processing. This works using the default Nochex method.
I also want to list Nochex as a separate payment method for Nochex account holders to use and also have that payment forwarded to Nochex for processing. This will also want the default Nochex method.

The only way I can see that I would do this would be to select Nochex as a payment method in the left hand column for both payment types. One would be renamed Credit / Debit Cards in the right hand column for the customer to see but in reality they would both be identical payment methods, the difference would happen when the customer reached the Nochex site and selected whether he/she was a Nochex account holder.

I must admit that I haven't had the time to test the Nochex payment type for processing Credit / Debits yet from a customers point of view but the above is how I believe it works.

              Thanks

You can only include a payment method once, so the the only real option you have here is to rename it to something like "Nochex/Credit card"

Personally I would prefer to know if I'm going to be using Nochex, they offer no payment protection to the customer at all and because of that I will not use them to pay with. If I did shop with you and found out afterwards that I had paid with Nochex not card then I would not be a happy bunny.

If you are paying by credit card then surely you would get the customer protection from the credit card company regardless of who processed the payment.

You would be aware that nochex was processing the payment before you committed because you have to tick a box to agree that you are aware that the payment will be marked as Nochex on the statement.

I am not sure of the situation about customer payment protection with Nochex but I am getting increasing numbers of customers using it. I do know that sometimes things can go too far the other way such as the way paypal will always favour the customer at the expense of the seller even when the seller is not at fault.

We bought a computer a while from a company that was in trouble (we obviously didn't know this at the time), we paid by credit card but the payment actually went through nochex, the computer didn't arrive and we worked out that there was a problem with the supplier and decided to cancel the order.

We had no luck cancelling with the supplier and so decided to cancel the card payment (this is when we found out that it was a nochex payment), the card company refused to do anything because nochex said that the payment was not is dispute, nochex wouldn't put the payment into dispute dispite the fact that the company had not supplied the goods purchased.

We sorted it out after a few months with our bank, who ironically refunded the money twice (we gave one lot back though).

If there is a check box to agree to then that's good but to attract nochex account holders but also make people aware that this the way forward for credit card holders you need to either change the payment method name or add something to the website that lets them know.
