    To .htm, or to .html

A bit of a search engine query here.

The company I work for has an existing marketing site that uses the .htm extension. They have submitted the site to search engines and do show up.

I am currently developing there first e-commerce site with Catalog which uses a .html extension.

    1. Frist question, will the change of extension affect the search engine rankings?

    2. Second question (dependant on question 1), what would be the best solution to this issue?

    Cheers

    Andrew

if the pages have the same name and you are replacing the htm ones with html then you will lose the listing.

However if they are different page names it does not matter at all what extension you use. either or both is fine

Thank you for the reply Jo.

I will go down the road of ensuring the page names are different and take it from there.
